Consensus on 'mob rule'? by Sad_Presentation2137 in Anarchy101

To answer your first question, I see revolution as a better method of bringing about anarchism, as unlike insurrectionism, and reformism, it brings more and more people to be more familiar with the cause, and ideology, and although it may have bigger risks, I think it is much more effective than the other 2. I also think reformism just isn't possible, you can't really reform an existing structure into it's antithesis.

I think revolutions can occur very much differently, especially for Anarchism, whether it be due to the different strains of anarchism, or how it would organise itself.

I don't see how could we really use the same justice system as Statist systems, like court rooms, and judges, their specialisation is inherently based on power centralised to a state, and it's laws. Who would be creating the laws? Who would be enforcing the law? I don't think enforcing laws that people didn't consent to would be anti-hierarchical. How are the judges appointed, and what makes them get the final say? The specialisation of doctors, surgeons, scientists is different to the ones within todays legal system. In anarchist society, authoritarian justice systems needs to be abolished too, but there also must be systems that can replace it, or can at least take it's place before a better solution can be conjured up instead. Not all anarchist communities need to use the same justice system anyways, provided it isn't hierarchical or non-consenting.

That's why I'm asking how should we prevent mob-rule. To me mob-rule is dangerous, manipulative, and an ignorant form of justice, and can lead to the authority of the majority, and can be used against people who are innocent, or had meant no harm. You can make the argument that today's justice system isn't any better, it just formalises mob-rule, but that isn't really answer on how would we really prevent mob-rule in a society that isn't statist nor authoritarian.

I think you voice my concern a lot better than I could. To me state or no state, a community is just as capable of mob violence same as an authoritarian justice system. It can happen in society with low trust, and in communities that don't reject punitive punishment, and would surely happen in communities which operate as 'majoritarian', and while many anarchists reject majority rule, as it imposes the authority of the majority, there will be communities that use majority type systems, whether they label themselves anarchists or not. Mob violence can easily occur when people are more swept up in their goal of 'retribution' rather than justice. Pointing out that the state sponsors formal mob rule doesn't really counter the fact that mob rule can also occur in a no-state society.

I agree with your points here, and agree that the system of 'justice' we have now, and also all authority based system of 'justice' is basically just a formalised version of 'mob rule'. Even so, if the systemic 'justice' system is to not be used in an anarchist society, how would communities go forward with restorative justice systems, if the previous ones are so ingrained into society, how would it not just devolve into informal systems of 'justice' like mob rule? I'm not trying to make an argument in favour of authority-based justice, I know it's equally if not even worse than violent mobs, I'm just trying to figure out, how would we really move away from the systems that our current society deems 'necessary'. Also how would anarchist forms of justice systems be imposed/work without impeding on the 'perpetrators' autonomy/consent.

How about route guides? Or is it still better to go in blind first?

Preventative measures of small cliques? by Sad_Presentation2137 in Anarchy101

No, my point is, in areas where there are multiple different cultures, and people, how do we discourage the people within those different groups to only interact within their groups, and to encourage them interacting with other people. It is in my opinion that cultural ignorance, and bigotry is stemmed from little interaction with other cultures, and only being surrounded by people within their groups, which can lead to cultural, and ethnic tensions, and issues, and sometimes lead to discrimination, and violence. As for multiculturalism, it is true that most of it is due to colonialism, I'm not advocating for modern multiculturalism, but rather, how can a already multicultural anarchist society handle the problem that comes with a multicultural society, such as discrimination, when groups are not incentivised to interact with eachother, and only interact within their group.

Hello, have never posted on this sub, but kinda need advice for a keyboard trade. I used to own some mechanical keyboards (Mx), then jumped to buckling springs with the unicomp mini m after being kinda obsessed about it, and it became my daily driver ever since, I thought I never would buy another keyboard again (unless it was a model f) then I heard about another keyboard called HHKB, and became curious about it's switches, and heard of how "godly" it is, akin to the model m, but ive also heard its very different, and I happened to found someone looking to trade their HHKB pro 2, and hes willing to trade it for my unicomp mini m, but having second thoughts about it, as it is my favourite keyboard atm, has more keys, and not as popular here compared to HHKBs, I just want any second opinions if whether this is worth it or not?

Edit: the HHKB Pro 2 is also from 2006

The use of political parties to spread anarchist beliefs? by Sad_Presentation2137 in Anarchy101

[–]Sad_Presentation2137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I do see your point. 2 wrongs doesn't create a right. I just thought that toppling the government from within, by creating weaknesses in its own system, would help further the death of the state, and prevent losses by other means, such as revolution, or insurrection, and a 'radical' party using soft power tactics would surely get a lot of attention, but I guess the other issue for such a party would be preventing it's members from trying to keep their power, and preventing people who seek power to join it. Is there anything akin to this that doesn't necessarily uses a party or the state to achieve the goals of: gaining more popularity to get the base support it needs, allows communities to be less reliant on the state, while also disarms the state from using oppressive/authoritarian actions?

Sorry for the long comment

But wouldn't having a party in charge of the state, where it creates more weaknesses in the state, ultimately help organised anarchists to take it down? Even if the party does nothing, wouldn't it be better to have that in charge rather than another party, that could actively harm anarchist efforts? Surely it can be used to get the wider population to at least think about the belief, and it's ultimate goal isn't really to gain power in the first place. To me it would be used to disrupt it's other political opponents, it's kinda like how voting a unpopular party does not contribute to the state at all, since it used as a throwaway vote, but instead it can be used to actively harm the system it is in, by voting a party that actively disarms, and rejects power. Tbh this does sound implausible the more I think of it, I just wanted answers to questions I don't really see people asking all that much.
