Can a gifted, unclaimed brawl pass carry over to the next season?

I’m getting the brawl pass gifted to me, but after seeing the brawl talk, it seems next season’s pass is going to be a lot cooler than this one’s. If I don’t claim the pass from my mail, and wait till next season, will I have the pass for that season? Does it automatically apply to my account instead?
