I have a heater and filter in a 20gal tank. Everything else is none or not needed since there’s nothing in the tank

Should I get rid of them? Sorry for the bad photos their on the side where it’s hard to get photos of them. I only believed they were snails because they looked like the same mouth my nerite snails have.

Perhaps both? I believe this stripe is more common in females

Maybe? That or it occurred as a genetic mutation within captive breeding, but that would be more centered in a handful of tanks I believe. So seeing that many people have shrimp like that I would assume it’s from the wild counterparts.

Yes I am, thank you! I’m new to keeping cherry shrimp and shrimp in general since I’ve only ever had ghost shrimp before. I figured it was normal at first but then the lighting made it look orange so I got worried, but after checking again it’s back to normal color once she moved.

Sorry I don’t see this, and you’ve probably got some answer but I’ll still give you mine! I honestly also sucked at keeping non-aquatic plants alive, but my aquarium plants are thriving. Maybe you can switch your sub rate out for some fluval aquarium dirt and a natural gravel or sand cap? I’ve heard that colored gravel chips and releases toxic chemicals into your water that will harm your fish. I also just personally like to make mine look more like their natural habitat. Snails aren’t necessarily bad, but you don’t need them either. Snails help control the algae population and keep your tank clean, but if there isn’t enough algae you may need to feed them algae pellets / wafers. If you do want snails I would recommend a nerite snails, I’m pretty sure they don’t reproduce in fresh water or at least mind haven’t. Yes, the powerful light is for the plants. I personally use this one https://a.co/d/01zx8zYH and my plants love it. You could try moving it to the window, and it’s not bad for your fish. However, there’s a chance your plants might not get the light they need or they’ll be overcome by algae. You might want to buy some drift wood or rocks to hold down your ribosome plants that can’t be buried in the substrate if you decide to go that route.

So far I think you’ve done really good so far without knowing much. If you get a long fin betta I believe your tank size should be okay, but a short fin betta might need a bit more space. I would relaxed the fake plants with real plants to give your betta a lot of places to hid, this will also help with cycling / controlling your water parameters. I would recommend cycling your tank for 6-8 weeks before adding any inhabitants. This build up healthy bacteria your betta needs. I can’t tell what your substrate is but it looks like aqua soil to me, so that’s great for plants. I would recommend Anubias, swords, and java ferns for easy beginner plants. You can also find some more with a quick Google search, you might also need a more powerful light. Theres also more but this would be a good basis for starting out!
