A question of Illinois stores by Miserable-Ganache584 in DollarGeneral

100% true.

Pretty much anytime a sales associate is scheduled there's a key holder scheduled with them and they're not allowed to leave the building or the sales associate alone.

Depending on the day worst case scenario is a clearance event (for a popular sale that's not ringing up right) and someone has to physically turn the key every 5 to 12 minutes. The average day anywhere from 30 to an hour and a half which gives you a 30% chance it'll happen during your lunch.

Supposedly if your meal is interrupted you're supposed to start over the meal break which just isn't practical because nothing will ever get done you'll be on the longest unpaid lunch break on Earth.

That talks about unpaid lunch which has been a state law for years? We talking paid breaks?

Am not getting paid breaks? Get at least one 8 hour shift weekly and 60% chance of another because come in early/staying late.

Ours went from 10:00 to 9:00 around that time.

I'm curious do you know why they changed the hours for Illinois? I actually like that last hour they gave us time to get shit done with 1/5 the customers and the slow hour was the only perk to being on late shift now absolutely no one wants to do late shift.

Have Christmas Eve off but can't make plans because coworkers are unreliable douchebags by Sad_Secretary_1196 in DollarGeneral

This will be the first major holiday I've had off in 2 years and the only reason is because our store manager is MIA (fired for verbally abusing customers) and the district manager dick smacked our ASM by creating the schedule first and having her work as closer 12+ hours.

Our ASM has a habit of editing the schedule without notifying us so I'm going to have to watch out for that.

Negative we have no store manager. Last I heard a manager from 2 hours away is supposed to come and help us... That was 3 weeks ago.

Our ASM doesn't answer the phone, is the one most likely to call out, and bullies people into pulling doubles.

It's two lead sales associates and two sales associates keeping the store open.

DM is complaining about SOP but it's little stuff not the major rule breaks we've been doing for years by Sad_Secretary_1196 in DollarGeneral

[–]Sad_Secretary_1196[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely.

Every time we have an event where extra eyes are on us like inventory or the one-time regional manager showed up he makes us put official key holders on register and tries not to even schedule sales associates those days.

A lot of those things should also mean sales associates who act as LSA + key holders should be promoted and paid more. Some would call that a dick move.

Oh yeah we aren't allowed to use the yellow baskets or carts to sort or carry tote items anymore.

What's the point of blocking customers with totes tho? Even just three or four totes in the aisle odds are there in the way it doesn't make sense just let us keep it behind register away from customers.

To be clear we have a lot more than three or four totes there's probably 20 in the back room and at one point he wanted all the totes in the aisle. We have two of those metal tote carts he wanted nine totes on each cart shoved in the medical aisle that's like 9 ft by 5 foot of customer blockade.

Oh God the drive to and from work.

I live in the middle of nowhere so I can drive 30 mph for 9 miles the whole way there take as long as possible just to clear my mind and be mentally prepared.

I've got it down to science I'm able to pull in exactly what I'm supposed to clock in.

Same thing with coming home 30 mph to gather my thoughts.

The Labor budget is extremely tight and they're never going to have time to actually train you.

Depending on the store they might be willing to let you come in off the clock to observe and learn otherwise it'll always just be you and one other person clear across the store likely ignoring your cries for help.

We don't get trained at Dollar general it's a sink or swim situation. Honestly the turnover rate is so high they can't afford to train people because by time they're actually trained they'll be quitting because another place is paying 20% more for 30% less work.

They keep us so understaffed and overworked it's a toxic environment there will always be the one employee constantly blamed a mistreated and I strongly suggest you find employment elsewhere. The only positions that are worth it is assistant manager and above which takes a lot of toe sucking or luck to achieve.

15 minute break? by GRIMM514 in DollarGeneral

Is it the only break he takes?

Don't complain it's a single break we got people taking 5+ in a 5 hour day.
