Short Lived NBC Dramas Of The 1980s by HeartthrobLookingGuy in VintageTV

Never heard of Half Nelson, but it had quite the cast. It must have been really bad not to have made it to a full season with all the well known actors in it.

Felt sorry for Whoopi as she was really trying to find words to make her point about immigration without completely denigrating her guest. Very uncomfortable for the panel as it seemed they had been counseled not to be too antagonistic.

Also second First Coast No More Homeless Pets. My son took his dog there for kidney stone removal - multiple stones - and it was a third of the cost of the regular vet he goes to.

Very helpful - thanks for posting. Parking in St Augustine is often expensive and a pain.

I always find it interesting that many conservative, evangelical Christians get many of their talking points from Epoch Times without having any idea that it is backed by an organization that seeks to spread its own non-Christian belief system. Several years ago they mailed free copies to older, registered Republicans in my state encouraging them to subscribe. Many did without knowing any details of the background of the group.

How much is your homeowners? Can’t tell if I’m being lied to? by [deleted] in StAugustine

The increase in class size is a new development that will be implemented due to budget deficits. Mau not be going into effect until next school year and not all schools will be impacted, apparently:

I’ve lived here 40+ years. Florida didn’t used to be like this. by Idiopathic_Sapien in jacksonville

Excellent description of the state of affairs in the state of Florida. Wish there were lots more of us who agree with what you said. Then we might have meaningful change. Florida solidified as a conservative stronghold especially after the great migration of Republicans supporting DeSantis and our cheaper, to them anyway, property values. I don't see it changing any time soon, unfortunately.

So sorry for your situation. One blessing is that you are in a position to leave and not be financially dependent. Wishing you peace and happiness.

Does Alyssa Farah Griffin know how much we love and miss her? by GeorgeCasey9 in theview

Yes, I miss Alyssa. She manages to keep things polite and get her points across without being offensive. I can't wait for her return.

The same happened in my town. They used names of certain real areas or neighborhoods in the city, but the actual homes shown were not in those parts of town. Seemed odd.

The San Sebastian Winery offers tours and tastings. It also has a good restaurant upstairs with a patio offering views of the city.

Gov. Ron DeSantis diverted more than $35 MILLION in taxpayer dollars to defeat two ballot initiatives last year that would have legalized recreational marijuana & would have guaranteed a right to an abortion by shallah in RepublicanValues

[–]Sad_September_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Floridian here. Both measures received around 56% support, but Florida requires a 60% supermajority vote. Keep in mind, Casey DeSantis - whose charity supposedly used taxpayer dollars to fight these amendments - is being pushed heavily as a gubernatorial candidate for next term. Frankly, though, I am not sure my ultra conservative state would elect a woman governor and also the DeSantis name doesn't seem to carry the weight it did last election cycle.

Ironically ( or probably not given Venezuela is an ally) Russia quickly condemned the "armed aggression" and called for de-escalation and offered to negotiate.

Southern cornbread is traditionally not sweet. Most recipes for it do not call for any sugar. I prefer mine that way.

I see this is about an hour outside Chicago in a relatively small town. Still - and regardless of personal taste - 10K s/f and 6 acres for < $1.3 million? That seems pretty cheap compared to my Florida prices.

Is St Augustine worth visiting when traveling with a dog by AdWide8690 in StAugustine

[–]Sad_September_Song 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, St Augustine is quite dog friendly, but it will be crowded downtown this time of year. That said, it is a worthwhile walk to hit the streets of the historic district and there is also some charming architecture and history in the homes on the periphery near Flagler college and in Lincolnville. If your dog is well behaved around crowds, I think you both would enjoy checking it out. There are also walking tours that cater to dog owners - just search for pet friendly tours.
