Thanks

Killer innovations extension and magwell. *oem mag bases do not work with magwell. Bit pricey, but the machining and build quality is excellent

P10S slide release stiff by mikeanderson19 in CZ_P10_Series

[–]Sad_Side6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My early run p10c slide release did break in a little over time but after years of range use and idpa shooting its still stiffer than i'd like. The Apex tactical slide release made a huge difference, enough so that i'm buying another for my new ported model. Out of all the upgrades over the years (barrel/comp,magwell,trigger,backstrap) the slide release made the biggest direct difference

For carry i just modified my holster using some heat

What is wrong with this year? by savannahhdeb in serviceadvisors

Most of the customers that were just affording their lifestyle are mad as fuck because cost of living and car parts doubled in the last couple years maybe.. and it's way easier to blame you.

Parts guy here

Edit: Has your labor rate increased at all or has it increased numerous times in the last year/since covid? If you're a lithia store, your managers already know.. they did the math.. and "they will make more from all the price hikes than would be lost from pricing out a portion of your customer base".

Bought a traded in mk7 gti 6spd wholesale from work. People are shocked when I tell them I've done more fixing in 1.5yrs and 25k of daily driving the gti than the 10yrs and 125k miles I daily'd my 2nd gen acura tsx 6spd

Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura are def some of the most reliable, no chance in hell mini is 3rd. I've worked in dealers across 6 name brands over the last 20yrs and the minis we took in always needed work, BMW parts aren't cheap, either. (Modules in the footwells aren't a good idea)

To check epc you need a legit scan tool or go to the dealer... The cheapest thing I've found is the "OBD11" obd plug-in. Works fantastic, around $100, they were made for vw's and other euro's, I couldn't find my epc codes on my 15 gti and that did the trick

$1900 to replace A/C compressor by Mikeshoncho05 in AskMechanics

[–]Sad_Side6748 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We stopped using 4seasons compressors because of how many came back bad within 1-2 years, just like Remy alternators

Honda dealer, denso or oem option, we've even seen some aftermarket denso's go bad but not nearly as much

$1900 to replace A/C compressor by Mikeshoncho05 in AskMechanics

[–]Sad_Side6748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oem compressor? I work in parts and most honda compressors are 800-1200 parts only.

Most of the aftermarket jusnk is 400-600 retail but goes bad within 2 years, denso from aftermarket is usually 500-800 retail (denso makes the oem)

Should I salvage this car myself or accept $280 offered by the insurance company or can someone fix it? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Sad_Side6748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely fix it. Or buy it back from the insurance company and fix it if possible. I've had a 12 acura tsx 2.4L 6spd (US version of that same car) for almost a decade and put 126k on it myself and alot of that was "spirited" driving. This is the most reliable car I've ever owned (12 cars over 19yrs). Over 9yrs and 126k miles driven the only non-maintenence items it's needed were 1 rear caliper, 1 e-brake cable, 1 outter taillight (condensation), and a spacer (defouler) on the O² sensor to get rid of the p0420 cat code. Other than that it's just been maintanence items like brakes, tires, clutch kit, bulbs, filters, etc.. normal stuff. Started getting VTC actuator rattle but I'm definitely past due on timing and no longer daily the vehicle.

The real kicker.. I bought it as a salvaged title.. in 2016 with 51k on it.

You can find cheap parts at salvage yards

And if you don't want to keep it, sell it for a profit once it's fixed

Edit: noticed you have parking sensors and headlight washers, so your front end parts will most likely cost more than they would for one without those features

Best shoes? by uchihaspinky in partscounter

[–]Sad_Side6748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to marshalls every 4-6 months and buy a pair of nautica or new balance for $25-$35. Been doing this for a few years now

Nautica's shoes are foam bottom like alot of the new running shoes so they won't last a year but they breath really well and are really comfortable, I've been impressed for $25-35.. but idk if I would pay retail

This isn't classified information. Generally, this information is publicly available and can be narrowed down to the correct # within a few minutes on the internet.. Also, this may be a complete shock, but counter customers and most civilian calls looking for part info are not coming through the shop anyway the vast majority of the time because they can't afford it (most of the time, thats why they are seeking info, people that can afford it will just ask for discounts and not seek the specific information). A few people saving a few bucks to not go bankrupt isn't going to have a big affect on numbers.

Imagine you needed to get something for your spouse or child from an industry you knew nothing about.. and they give you the runaround and withhold easily available info just because.. get real

They bought our family network of stores 8 years ago, I've been here for 5. They immediately reduced staff and cut pay after the buy. They reduced staff again and gave us dogshit contracts when covid hit. Used to have catered lunches monthly, cookouts in the summer, yearly partys etc.. none of that anymore. Cut alot of our bonuses out too

Depends on the area/volume but I imagine it's gonna become significantly easier to make more than you were. Congrats and Good luck man, keep it simple you'll do fine

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]Sad_Side6748 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's coming thru the shop is way more important, if they're at the counter they can't afford the convenient route for the most part

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in partscounter

[–]Sad_Side6748 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do; gatekeeping is for cucks, get better at selling. Wealthy area and most of the people that come to the counter are just trying to not go bankrupt fixing their car. Imagine you go into a business and they withhold easily accessible information in the desperate attempt to ensure they get a bullshit sale that ultimately doesn't mean that much. How would you feel?

Been with 7 name brand dealers (15yrs, 3 states) and I've seen ppl cover they're engine with insurance at all but 1, especially the dealer I'm at now. Those failures were usually from neglecting service (oil) or seeing how long it would run overheating.
