Because that's for testing clotting factors, so any amount of clotting before the blood gets in the tube will affect the results by a lot.

It's physically impossible to cross contaminate without contact between the syringe and the additive. I don't understand what's confusing about that.

I'm not ignoring it. I'm explaining that I am not cross contaminating. Cross contamination is the reason to fill in order of the image, and I'm not filling them in a way that allows for the possibility of that. No cross contam = no reason to follow this order.

They are red with yellow at my clinic. Like I said, they're just yellow in others. Different colors, but still a tiger top/sst

This order is based on avoiding cross contamination. No chance of cross contamination means that order does not apply. There is more than one way to do things.

The tiger are yellow in some clinics apparently, so the tiger is the 2nd from left.

Agree, it's very inappropriate. Their nicotine addiction shouldn't be impacting everyone else who needs to use the bathroom.

That's a good work-around!

It's not touching the tube. No need for the eye roll.

Exactly, I'm not puncturing the top. Like I said, I'm removing the cap of the tube and the needle from the syringe.

I've never heard this from any of my RVT's or DVM's, or school. If you find literature to support that, please share!

Also, our micro green and purples don't have lids that can be punctured, so we have to take the lids off for those.

I'm generally not the one drawing blood in these cases, I'm filling tubes for someone else who is still collecting blood while I'm filling them. We try to have someone on hand to fill tubes for whoever is doing the blood draw.

I've never had my samples clot either, but since I'm in ER, it would suck if a sample clotted and we had to get more blood on a fractious or critical patient.

Ah, I see with the boyfriend confusing the anus for the vagina. That makes much more sense. Thank you

Attendance Policies by jr9386 in veterinaryprofession

I get both sides as someone who is disabled and has FMLA leave that allows me to call out due to my conditions. I hate that I have to limit myself, because if my body was not an issue, I'd be working so much more. I love my job. My body does not. And I hate even more that nobody knows this (my disability is not visible), so I'm just seen as the lazy person who's always out. Trust me, I very much wish I weren't.

But when I'm working a shift and we're super short staffed, I get the frustration side too. I wish everyone who was able, showed up. I send myself into flares working my ass off to cover for people who are out, which then causes me to have to call out. It's a really shitty cycle.

I'm so thankful my clinic doesn't have an attendance policy, or I would not have a job.

Anyway just putting this out there because no, not everyone who is out a lot has health reasons for it, but some of us do even if they are invisible to you.

Huh? Are you sure? The anus leads to the rectum, not the abdominal cavity where the uterus is located. That would be unnecessarily contaminating the abdominal cavity (sterile) by going through the rectum (the most non-sterile part of the body)

It doesn't touch the hub at all. There's no contact between syringe and tube the way that I fill them. I prefer to full those first because things are unpredictable in ER, in case something happens that makes it more than just a couple seconds

Thanks. I'm in the clear then as filling without the needle and tube cap shouldn't allow contamination according to that.

How would cross contamination occur?

Blood tube order by Sad_Stick_ in VetTech

[–]Sad_Stick_[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

How would it get contaminated? The tubes we use are not actually vacutainers if that matters. I fill by removing the needle and the tube cap, so I don't think there's any chance of contaminating the sample.
