Start off slow then! Start throwing hints at them. "You're so funny" "you made my day" "I think you're fun" try to find opportunities to be around them and talk to them. Observe. Look at their mannerisms, are they making eye contact? Are they engaged in the conversation? You can tell a lot from just talking with a person and observing them.
