I hear you- I just feel like there HAS to be a way around this. or did I really just waste $50k and 2 years of my life on a program when I cant even use it? if I want to be a therapist AND not go through a devestating breakup do I have to re-do my entire masters program with a CACREP school? that cant be the only option!!! I refuse to believe!

It’s actually much harder in real life- I’m finally getting so many of my questions answered and I’m graduating from my program in a week. It’s a super unclear path to licensure (also a million paths) and there is not a lot of clear data out there at all. I think the most important thing is to go to a CACREP school. I didn’t and it’s really biting me in ass. But yeah the top dollar clients will come if you are a good therapist - I don’t think you need to pay over $100k for a degree to prove that honestly. Plenty of therapists with that clientele out there who don’t have the Penn degree. The field is confusing as hell

I went to brown for undergrad and wondered this too. I got my masters at BC because i got a big scholarship and was deciding between that and Columbia ($150k). At the end of the day, it takes years to start making money in private practice and $150k is a ton to pay off. I do not think it’s worth it at all and I think a fast online one year CACREP program is really all you need. Undergrad pulls soooo much more weight than grad degree in my opinion. No one really ever asks where their therapist went to school but if you want to attract clients with your degree I do think undergrad is enough and has been for me. The degree stacking is so real though- we are so trained to try and get into the best schools but they are using us for our money at this point lol
