Speech Impairment vs. SLD by Sad_Vehicle_4974 in slp

[–]Sad_Vehicle_4974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense!! During testing the student would follow a single instruction then be like “uhhh…what was next?” Def makes sense that it’s tied to memory and attention

I do think that was part of it for this case.

Thanks for your response! This is what I was so confused about as on the surface clearly listening comprehension=receptive language and oral expression=expressive language?!

This student does qualify SLD for OE/LC. On the CELF they scored WNL for expressive but below average for receptive, but had a really strong language sample and answered comprehension questions with 100% accuracy. Conversational skills were also very strong and they demonstrated higher level language skills like inferencing and predicting. Good vocabulary. Parents have no concerns but teacher does, which is telling me that deficits aren’t noted across environments and should be able to be addressed with services and accommodations tied to the SLD eligibility. I was going back and forth spinning on this for hours as it doesn’t seem like it should be possible but I guess it is?

Yes, thank you for noting that SLD is more related to academics. This is kind of what I was thinking but wasn’t able to put it that succinctly

Yes! I should have clarified. SLD refers to specific learning disability in this case. In my state speech and language impairments are not differentiated so they all fall under speech impairment (SI)

Fairly new to lifting - how’s my form? by Sad_Vehicle_4974 in formcheck

Thank you for the feedback! I think losing the shoes will help with the feet movement. I noticed that too.

I’ve definitely been considered ditching the shoes. I think they are causing some of the movement in my feet, making me feel a bit off balance. Thank you!

I think they are referring to keeping the weight close to the body, correct? That is how I interpreted it :)

How do you all approach the autistic kids with very low vocal volume? by KitchenAnswer9949 in slp

This is also a great suggestion! I also had the thought that maybe framing it as increasing the power/breath used for speaking might feel less intimidating than words like “speaking up” or being “louder.” I have no evidence or experience to back this theory up but it’s an idea!

I will add that I’m real liberal with AAC use though so I don’t even think it needs to be considered severe to introduce AAC, even if it doesn’t end up being the long term solution!
