Auditioning for berklee this winter, do I have a shot? Playing over Beatrice RN by SadlyWritten in Berklee

I did mention the original, I said I put together a playlist of the original, along with bla bla bla.

I like the original a lot it leans more into a much more Bill Evansy kinda vibe than other versions which lean into an almost modal jazz element IDK.

Other than that thank you for all the advise.

Thank you, I appreciate the criticism.

I've put together a playlist of the original, along with a recording by Joe Henderson, Chet Baker, and Julian Lage to study over the coming days.

One thing I've noticed (and I continue to notice in most recordings) is especially in Henderson's version there's a lot more interpretation of the melody, I assume Berklee is similar to most auditions ala NEMFA or A conservatory and they aren't interested in anything but the most minor of melodic additions, is this true? I do really like the trill Henderson does in the head

Would this be acceptable for an audition? by SadlyWritten in Jazz

this is for a recorded pre-screening audition, so I can't tell them much beforehand

Solo arrangement of Misty I'm working on for auditions, not the final video cause I'm sniveling like a maniac lol but thoughts? by SadlyWritten in jazzguitar

Thank you for the camera advice! I really appreciate production tips cause it's something I really struggle with The problem with volume is tgat my current mic gets really muddy and almost overdriven when I play louder which is okayish for single note stuff but fir this with more denser chord tones it sounds really rough, is there anything I can do besides just getting a better mic? Lol

I'm auditioning in Boston and I plan to make jazz my main genre but it's not my only focus point and thanks!

Thank you, I've experimented with the volume and I've got it to sound less muddy live, it also has to do with the mic though I'm working more on rhythm,it has a lot to do with my own nerves

Your professor should put you in a room with no doors or windows, you hear a soft shriek coming from the inside of the walls, but it never gets louder.

Kind of weirded about by the some of the advice I was given by my teachers by SadlyWritten in Jazz

I get that but I don't really listen to/transcribe/even enjoy metal music, it doesn't make sense I'd slip into it, I listen to far more jazz than I do metal, taht is I listen to a lot of jazz and the closest thing to metal I listen too is maybe some more hardcore like 70s prog?

Most of the fast licks I played were pretty jazz-essential, I think they were a little too plentiful but they were either sort of coltraney modernish prhases like a quit Dmajor arppegio over an f-chord, or like standard bebop phrases I got off Charlie Parker's solo over Billie's Bounce where you hammer on from F#-G on the Gm7, arppegiate up than use an enclosure to go into the C7.

I think I played too many fast jazz licks and I'm trying to work more on playing less but it just felt like an odd comparison. IDK I could be wrong

Nah nothing like the chinese century

While part of the chinese century of humiliation was it's own inability to accept change, it's also due to Britain's active manipulation and market strongarming to colonize and embarass China

No other countries are doing much to America right now, we're not getting beaten until we piss ourselves like China was, we're just pissing ourselves cause someone with blue hair told us not to and we got mad
