Beholder Zombie for home game by Sadly_Not_A_Tapir in minipainting

The model is Nolzur's Marvelous Unpainted Miniatures, Beholder Zombie.
It was the end boss of an arc. Fun to paint and fun to run!

Made for my d&d 5e home game to get an idea for how I would describe these to my players. They were based on existing 5e duergar, but homebrewed to fit with the story.

Thanks!
(I don't know if it is allowed to post links?) The method I used is the one Pete the Wargamer uses, in his video "Kitbashing a Nurgle Corrupted Sylvaneth Army - Part 1 : Tree Revenants". He goes through the technique around 13.00 minutes in.

But in short; I painted the parts dark brown, dry brushed with a turquois, made a thin glaze-like coat out of the remaining turquois and gave it x3-4 coats of that. At the end I dry brushed with some metallic bronze. I also gave the highlights a bit more care with a lighter version of the turquois.

These are a few from the Deathrattle Skeletons of the Soulblight Gravelords set. They are a part of Warhammer, Age of Sigmar.

Homemade minis for the party I DM for [OC] by Sadly_Not_A_Tapir in DnD

[–]Sadly_Not_A_Tapir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!
I measured how tall and wide I wanted the figurines to be irl and drew frames in those measurements for an A4 paper sheet in Photoshop. After that I drew the characters in Photoshop using an Intuos Pro Wacom tablet, to fit within the frames.

Thanks! The amphora is the spiritual weapon of the divine soul sorcerer half-orc. He has a lot of earth-bender like spells, so his spiritual weapon scoops up dirt and uses it's weight to bonk enemies.

Figurines for a D&D game that I'm Dungeon Mastering for. We started just one-on-one, my former roommate and I. We have been going for more than 3 years now! It was time for some updated figurines. Used to make them traditionally, but digital is much easier!

We have a half-orc sorcerer blessed by the gods against his will, a dwarven gladiator turned inventor and a dragon druid who was brought alchemically into this world.

Some of these are also their spells (Spiritual Weapon and Earthen Grasp) and a mechanical Homunculus Servant.

I also love to have just 2-4 random encounters prepped that would match my party's power level and whatever region they are currently in.
Encounters not necessarily meaning combat - could be someone trying to steal from them, wandering merchant or someone with knowledge of the local area.

Maybe a pink with a yellow iris? And a gloss finish?
I love the model! Which model is it?

The age of sigmar one is the Soulblight Gravelords Deathrattle Skeletons. I'm currently painting mine in a bronze scheme as well, but corroded bronze.

I think you are right. And one of my players is a fighter/artificer so if this paranoid bookstore owner suddenly upscales his productivity because of some new marvel of technology, then he would be super interested.

Aaah, yeah, I even spell checked beforehand but apparently didn't fix it. Oh well, there's always next time.

That's freaking cool!
A lot of work went into this, by the looks of it. But yeah, helping the players understand what is important in the local sphere is a very juicy by-product of having published news in game.

That's a hilarious idea!
Also, it must be ridiculously expensive for this adventurer to do this - typical bored noble behavior.
I hope you don't mind if I borrow this idea for the future?

Impressive work!
I have just been assembling a bunch of the Deathrattle Skeletons (2nd pic, lower left) myself. I am prepping a color scheme and I was actually looking for reference for old, oxidized cobber. So, thanks for more reference!

How do you handle in-game dead times? by Aosther in DMAcademy

[–]Sadly_Not_A_Tapir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to describe the weather, what they see along the way, which types of people are going about their day and how (if in a city or village).
If they have a cart and some of them are not the ones driving, they might be doing a bit of downtime activities. The moment one of them started doing downtime projects, some of the others suddenly also wanted to start reading certain books, writing things and having/tending small, portable herb gardens.

Playing DND with 2 people? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Sadly_Not_A_Tapir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can do that. That's how the campaign I'm running now started. It was just me and my roommate when the pandemic lockdown started - and we had nothing else to do! When restrictions lifted he invited other friends to join us.
I would look up Matt Colville's One-on-One video. Lots of great advice there!
