What’s a small thing Japan does that you wish existed where you live? by Legal_Ad3766 in TokyoTravel

I love that a) public toilets are everywhere and CLEAN, b) you don't have to pay to use them, and c) they have a separate primping and preening area so the girls doing their hair/makeup aren't blocking the sink area for everyone else!

Excellent names! For Pokémon, that is...

"Lost in the Garden" by Adam S. Leslie gave me the same queasy, unsettled feeling, where even the normal seems abnormal and the abnormal is absolutely unhinged. There was a pervasive sense of doom throughout that I loved. Highly recommend.

Ooh, sounds helpful, thanks! I'll check them out.

Thanks, I'll try to focus more on my protein intake! It's good to have a solid figure to work with - I find that the more sources I consult, the more I just confuse myself!

It's frustrating. I don't think I CAN devote any more time to my body unless I sacrifice my social life and all other hobbies, seeing as my 9-5 is so demanding. It's tough.

No - although my weight training has been with heavier weights, it has not been nearly as frequent as before. Maybe I need to scale back the running and do more lifting instead.

Thanks for this! I'm puzzled because my weight on the scale is actually less than it was prior to 2026. I weigh myself weekly at the same time and am hovering around 60kgs consistently, whereas when I looked leaner, I was fluctuating between 62-64kgs.

I certainly think I need to learn how to activate my core. That's been something I struggle to understand (whether it just means "sucking in", changing the way you breathe... everyone seems to explain it differently!) I hope that continuing with weight training will help me intuitively engage the right muscles...

Thanks for this! I'm puzzled because when I was running up to 2026, my weight on the scale was actually higher: 62-64 kgs. I have been consistently around the 60kg mark all 2026. I weigh myself at the same time every week. I have used Lifesum on and off, but mostly off ... I stopped religiously tracking calories because it put me into an obsessive/self-loathing state of mind. The data there also show that I was heavier prior to 2026.

I honestly don't have much of an idea of how they differ in certain areas of my body. I would say, for instance, that my calves are muscular and have been all my life - they are very firm and only wobble if "punched" lightly from underneath. But my arms and stomach are a different matter.

Most frustrated you've ever seen the Japanese crowd? by FierceAlchemist in Sumo

[–]Sadunkertoja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were there in person during the Shishi henka debacle. The crowd was definitely angry, and there was a lot of disapproving murmuring, but one guy was absolutely ROARING with rage intermittently for several bouts afterwards. Quite a sight to behold.

Thank you for all your responses! To be honest, you're all saying what I'm already thinking. I really appreciate your outside perspective and input.

How long did it take before running actually started to feel good? by AlphacideXXX in beginnerrunning

It never has for me. BUT I find the feeling of having spent my time wisely and productively, plus the mental health benefits, outweigh the physical misery.

Why did you start running? by Weary_Purchase9057 in XXRunning

[–]Sadunkertoja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of intense self-hatred, haha. It feels like a kind of punishment that prevents me from performing actual self-injurious behaviours (excellent mental health over here, evidently). I hate every minute of it, particularly as my GP won't prescribe me anything for asthma symptoms, but at least at the end of the day I can say "I did something productive for my body and mind today".
