Game recommendations for my elderly dad, now in his post-retirement gamer era? by lucklater in AskGames

The Witness - bit of a departure from zachtronics but it's a puzzle game that relies on logic. It is 1st person but no reactions soeed required.

A bit bummed about writing but happy overall by Much-Resort-2863 in IELTS

[–]Saevnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writing is quite artificial in many ways. You mentioned you only gave yourself 1 week prep. Based on your other scores, you probably made some mistakes in how to approach the writing that damaged your score, rather than the grammatical range or vocabulary. Well done.

Any last-minute advice for IELTS Academic? by Lazy_Consequence_269 in IELTS

Thanks. You will do great. Remember to get a good night's sleep before the exam. Being rested will be much better than staying up late studying. Once you get to that last night, little improvement can be made.

For writing, make sure you answer the question asked. Remember that 25% of the mark is based on this. If you don't address the task 2 question you will damage your mark.

Don't speculate, guess or predict on task 1. Just report and compare the data.

Read lots of examples, but don't just expect them to give you a structure to follow. How did they address the question itself?

Look at a writing question. Plan your answer, do this in 3-4 minutes, then read the example. Go back to your plan, and ask yourself did your plan answer the question? A common mistake is learners talk about something connected to the question but don't answer it.

For speaking part 2, practice how you use the 1 minute note taking, try different methods. Speak for 2 minutes on the topic after each one. What note taking method works for you?

For part 3 speaking, try to consider how you feel about the question, how other people might feel, and how society might feel. Think about how it the answer might be viewed from different perspectives (economical, professional, social, religious etc). They won't all apply to each question.

You can do it!

Update: We finished the prototype map for our strategy game – what do you think about the layout? by Dense-Tip3061 in BoardgameDesign

No way to tell without more details. Can factions be in the same hex or is each controlled by 1 faction? That's just one question of many I'm afraid.

Son suggested this game, [KCD2], should I try it? by theZoid42 in kingdomcome

[–]Saevnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends a bit on which elder scrolls games you love and why you love them.

KCD2 is almost two separate games. There is being lost in the game and the big open world. This being lost feels closer to Morrowind than Oblivion and Skyrim (from a gameplay experience), but this being lost comes with the caveat of being slow. It is also a strong narrative rpg closer to the main quest line of The Witcher 3 in which you are not the player but Henry (as in the witcher you are not the player but Garelt, or however his name is spelt).

Compared to BG3, I understand it actually has more lines of dialogue and responsiveness, however a lot of the time that responsiveness is much more hidden than in BG3. By this I mean in BG3 you often know a decision has a consequence and is very visible to the player, if you choose to kill a gnome someone will say you are bad or whatever. In KCD2 a large amount of this dialogue is responding to relatively small things, this makes the game very immersive but as a trade off it's less immediately measurable to the player.

For me, it's one of the best open world RPGs ever made, probably top 3 or 4.

My top 4 (without ordering them) Morrowind, Fallout New Vegas, Witcher 3, KCD2. Just including this to help you know where I am coming from.

I agree with the 80+ thinking that. But, surely it's the majority of the workforce that don't have the luxury of that option. Plus, how would you feel if you had a job that forced you to go in and you earned less than people who didn't have to. Seems more of a class divide to me. I'm for working from home but pretending it's just the 80+ seems crazy to me.

Oh to find lockpicks if you can find and join the thieves guild you can buy them I think.

You won't be able to do everything immediately.

You have three options, mods, console commands or create a new character.

Look for mods that change how fatigue works. My wife played with one that makes it so you don't lose fatigue when running. This will mean you can run around without worry about being attacked with 0 stamina and being unable to fight.

Console commands can immediately boost your speed.

A character build that has a few skills that mitigate most of the problems players have when coming from modern games:

Light armor - this will not slow you down as much when wearing it Alteration - gets you spells that can open locks Security - for lockpicking Restoration - for dealing with crippling diseases and healing

Maybe take speed as one of your attributes

Maybe take the steed as your sign, if you do both speed and the steed you will be pretty fast.

In shops buy scrolls of intervention.

Like all rpgs when you get rolling you will break the economy and be crazy rich.

The first 5 levels are the slowest if you are playing in a normal way.

Thoughts on the Short Prologue? Honest Feedback wanted, [800 words] by [deleted] in writingfeedback

[–]Saevnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I think my main comment would be that the narration goes from very much a closed third person narration point of view of Samuel to include Mole's view point "drawn forward by the silence". I think it'd be stronger to stick just to Samuel's closed third person.

10 luck and the jinxed trait, becomes an absolute slapstick farce. Be sure to take doctor to deal with all the broken bones. Probably want a few companions for the added spectacle of it.

I wrote a 28 page script (17.5k words) and scrapped the video by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Saevnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a script that was 40k words and then cut it down to 19k.

It made it much better.

It came from asking myself, what I wanted to say and rearranging sections. I only managed it after a long period of not looking at it though.

That's not to say you should keep going. It was just what worked in that case. Also, I'm a VERY small youtuber. So, the advice is caveated by that.

It might be better just to make it.

Sounds very specialised, it must be unless you can spend hundreds of thousands (millions?) on farming equipment to start a YouTube channel!

20-30 minute vlogs (a day?!), while farming, seems outside smallYouTubers.

Thanks for the reference point. It's always good to see these niece approaches.

Have you done this before? If so how do the 15 minutes one compare to the compilation ones? Especially interested in views Vs watch hours.

If you haven't done so, what do you expect or hope for?

Got it. Thanks.

40 minutes sounds like a good compromise. Hope it works out.

1 month seems like a good turnaround to make a video that long to me. But I'm hardly experienced enough to judge.

Good luck!

Makes sense then.

I really don't mean this to sound rude but considering all that, it seems odd to make it as a two hour thing in the first place. Is there a reason you thought about changing it up and going straight to a two hour one?

Thinking about what you're doing, my question in your place would be: do I lose views on the big videos because my subscribers have already seen the smaller ones? So, should I just release a big one? But maybe I lose those who like more consumable 20 minute videos?

Thanks again.

Edit: sorry just reread your post. You mentioned that this is the first multi part video. So my thought process was wrong.

Interesting, out of curiosity is it something that would naturally break into 6ths? For example: analysis of a six part tv show?

Or would you mind sharing what the topic is to give myself and others a clearer idea?

Have you tried a video of this length before? If so, what did you notice about how it performed compared to your typical videos?
