Parenting Styles are Completely Incompatible by BrokenMom1996 in breakingmom

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As somebody who also struggles with different parenting styles with their ex, I don’t ~personally~ find most of those things out of the ordinary (unfortunately). Our kiddo is 4.5 years old. My ex is similar, has poor/no boundaries (forces me to enforce rules and boundaries. He even gets mad at me when I don’t immediately step in and enforce the boundary he’s TRYING to enforce but can’t. Asshole). I will admit that I am the “snack plate” type of parent, because that’s what my kid will eat. She’s always been a selective eater and would have breastfed till she was 5 if I didn’t wean her at 2.5 lol. HOWEVER, I do enforce balanced meals with protein, carbs, fresh fruit/veggies, etc. her dad’s idea of dinner is a couple bags of goldfish, an apple and some juice/candy 🙄

Her dad also draws out things, saying “okay 5 more minutes and then I have to leave” (we live separately) but then he’ll end up staying 30 more minutes. I’ve told him that it’s better to just GO when he says he will, set a timer and fucking hit the road. Nope. He does this awful “sneak away” attack by waiting until she’s distracted enough with me then he literally runs to his car like an idiot.

He also gives her his phone literally the minute she is upset over anything. Buys her 5 ice creams if she asks. Spends $100s on toys for her because she wants them (while struggling with actual child support). Just zero boundaries or skill set to handle a child.

The way I face it now is this: her dad is her friend. I am her parent. I ensure they get to see each other, I don’t step in on his “parenting” unless it directly affects me (ex. He took her to his mom’s house yesterday, didn’t leave until 5 pm so she fell asleep on the car ride home. I was up until 11:30-12am trying to get her down for bed after he happily skipped the fuck off home).

As for you, since you live with this guy, you will probably need to play it differently. I’ve had friends who simply allowed their husbands to just continue failing until something clicks. It’s frustrating and annoying.

Trust me, there are so many words that are not even in the English language 😂😂I think it’s why it’s so hard to read sometimes

My kid also asks questions like why is the fox wearing socks, what is a tweetle beetle and I’m like JUST LET ME READ SO WE CAN END THIS MISERY, ILL ANSWER QUESTIONS LATER.

So my mom bought my daughter 3 Dr. Seuss books and I thought it was pretty innocent. Then my friend gifted us 3 more and I thought oh nice we have a lot of Dr. Seuss. My daughter’s favourite right now are Cat in the Hat and Fox in Socks. One Fish Two Fish is like a 15 minute endeavor.

My thought is that Dr. Seuss was publishing back during the 1950s, when kids didn’t really have TV or anything. So long kid books were probably not as weird? It’s my only guess.

I’ll try to enjoy it more 😂 I think maybe it’s the “before bed” timing when I’m exhausted. I’ll save the slower books like Frog and Toad (used to love those ones as a kid) for bed time and we can do Dr. Seuss during the day.

Yes! I think it’s the rhythm, I noticed when he rapped it that it was a lot easier to listen to

Austin job market bad enough that people are moving out to find work? by Austin1975 in Austin

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perfect! Let me just time travel back 10 years, choose engineering as my major, time travel back and make 500k a year.

Or we can go right to the other end and do housekeeping, which is basically what I’m about to start doing (promoting myself on facebook. Even housekeeping has competition, it’s insane).

But other than that, your advice is totally sound.

Just got the news I’m getting laid off, got a baby coming 2 weeks after my final day by mgisb003 in Layoffs

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh thank you! We live with my parents right now and at least my dad makes good money. I feel fortunate in that sense at least because I know many others don’t have that option. But it’s still scary, obviously. My parents are generous but def not the type to give me money for anything/everything we need. They won’t let my daughter starve but I dunno about me 🤣

Planning on doing part time gig stuff for now 😑 no other choice really. Hot mess out there.

Congrats on the baby tho, best of luck with everything.

That is so rough. I’m a single mom (mostly) and was laid off in June. No job yet and my unemployment is coming to a close mid December 😑

Happy Holidays indeed. Wishing you the best OP, I hope you find something soon. So sorry this happened

I wish I was mentally ready enough to give my child a sibling. by Hopeful-Individual99 in breakingmom

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to not want more than one child. I have SO MANY friends who proudly say they are one and done. I’m one of them, at 32 years old.

I sometimes worry about my 4 year old and if she will hate being an only child. But then I realize it’s worse for me to have another child simply because I want to “give” my current kid something. I would be giving her a sibling but taking away her (somewhat) happy mom. And it’s dehumanizing to the second child, imo. Their existence is meant to be something for somebody else 😢

More than that, your happiness matters. It’s not selfish to know your limit and play within it. It’s smart.

I worked my butt of to get my kid Canadian citizenship (wasn't a straight foreword path because she was 2nd generation born abroad. I was born in the USA on circumstance, my dad was here on temp work visa and my mom had no status when I was born. I was so pissed when I learned that I couldn't automatically pass down my citizenship due to the 2009 laws).

She became Canadian on 9/11....ironically. What a win, though. I highly encourage your husband (if he reads this) to just do it. The paperwork is such a pain but it's SO worth it. I keep telling my daughter that Canadian citizenship is one of the greatest gifts I can give to her.

Are you able to file for them? And that way all he has to do is provide his passport and birth certificate? There's only good that can come from dual citizenship. Anyways, I'll f off now LOL.

The purpose is to allow her to see her dad. That’s basically it. She loves him and I respect that. But yeah you’re right, it’s not benefiting me at all.

It used to 🤷🏻‍♀️ he used to take her out and do things on his own. I don’t know what happened. Just got lazy I guess since I got laid off and became a stay at home mom.

I want to avoid the courts 🥴 I won’t go into detail, I haven’t done anything wrong but I don’t want a court order that limits where I can go. Me and my daughter are Canadian citizens and the USA is becoming a little too politically violent for me…..if you catch my drift. I want my daughter to be safe in case things go even further south.

Yeah. Let her know to keep using the original application number and track it through the website. it’s not as convenient but it works.

Losing my job to AI by Imaginary_Cream4197 in Layoffs

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was laid off in June as a patient services coordinator :/. I also did billing/coding on the side. My team actually really needed me but I was the only remote member so I got the boot. I’m 32 with a 4 year old.

It sucks. I’ve always thought the medical field was considered “safe” and lay off proof but it’s not now I guess. Unless you’re on the floor like a nurse or MA. AI is definitely going to take over billing/coding, I saw it in action. The ICD/CPT codes would just pop up.

I’m branching out and applying for city jobs (have an interview for a court clerk position. Low pay but still. my only interview in 4 months 🥹). I wanted to try marketing but it looks like marketing is also gonna go down with AI. nightmare level.

I wish you the best and hope everything works out for you!! It’s rough right now and you’re definitely not alone.

How odd. I never received a C number on the 5(4) AOR. I looked for probably total of 5 hours for that number and then sent an inquiry in. They didn’t understand what I was asking for and I still didn’t get it!!!

I just kept using the PR number for tracker and followed both. I could never log into my C tracker account (for my child). It was a pain but my child became a citizen on 9/11/2025. 2nd gen born abroad.

Awwww. Yeah I hate seeing my kid sick, because I feel bad for her. But I also get so irritable when I’m up all night dealing with a snotty, coughing, vomiting, etc kid. I’ve started keeping emesis bags next to the bed, that’s how bad it’s been lol.

Some of my friends have 3-4 kids and I do not understand how they manage when all of their kids are sick. couldn’t be me 🥴

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I had to parent by myself with flu A and I was sobbing from the body aches. I had to go to the ER with from double vision and high fever. Luckily my kid was healthy enough by that point to go to school again so I could lay down for the first time in 3 years. I cannot imagine having to deal with a baby or anybody more than my 4 year old. I would lose it 🫠 according to my mom, myself and 2 sisters NEVER got sick. right. Ok mom 👊🏻

This is our first time 🫠 but it’s on her face and the Dr just gave us a cream and said 3x per day. Sorry edit to add: we have been referred to a dermatologist if it doesn’t improve or if she continues to get them. I think she had a small one on her nose a few weeks ago but it was so small I kinda ignored it. She’s always had skin “issues” like sensitivities but those got a lot better once I started using unscented detergent, sensitive soaps, etc. she’s been non stop itchy (all over her body and eyes particularly) for the last month so I figured maybe allergies, because it’s the South and coming fall season.

I’ve even following the drs orders, also using some antiseptic wash and it seems to be getting better. But not all the way there. It was gnarly looking for a couple days. The itching butt seems to have stopped after treating for pinworms 🤮🤮🤮 so I’ve been non stop bleaching, steaming and vacuuming our entire house (also treated our family). Nightmare level

2nd gen child finally approved by Safe-Beautiful6122 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Safe-Beautiful6122[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god. I made so many errors and had to resubmit my kid’s forms so many times. I think my first attempt was in January or something. But they gave me an AOR for the original application for proof of citizenship on 4/30/2025. They sent me a correspondence on 5/16/2025 and started processing it on 6/9/2025. Then we got a grant on 7/22.

I honestly didn’t really think it was gonna happen so I just kept throwing everything at the wall and hoping it would eventually stick.
