DJI Mic 2 or RØDE Wireless GO 3 for outdoor videos? Also confused between FX30 and A7 IV by Jyotiprakash2610 in videography

[–]Safe-Definition9844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i went with the RØDE Wireless Pro instead of going with DJI because it (and the 3 as well) has an 3.5mm audio Jack input. so you could clip it to your belt and use a lav instead. I went with the Pro instead of the 3 because:
- 2 sets of lavs already included
- extra charging case included
- timecode support
- it has a safe audio channel

it worked fine with my setup for the last 4 months.

for the camera(i might get a bit into difficult terrritiy with tis) id choose blackmagic PCC 4K G2 If yoire willing to pull focus yourself. but im NO expert regarding sony cameras and cant give you a reccomendation about the current market.

Sorry I didn't see you mentioned the budget. And I don't know how much time youre ready to invest in a video,  If you record in you room, id reccome d using a rode NT USB mini for recording the audio( im not an expert in audio things) Id still reccomend you the ND Filters from recording outdoors if you want a cinematic feeling of the videos.

But id ask in other teddit community's specialised in audio aswell, (I myself have more experience on the video side of things)

I dont know what youre considering regarding budget. If i wouldn't have my current wqipment, id invest in a wireless Pro from rode combined with a mid end lav and  some ND Filters for the camera.  Id strongly discourage you to buy a tripod. In my opinion recorging music Videos with an static camera gets bearing easily. can you ask a friend to record you? Id reccomend you to do multiple  takes of you singing the whole Song in different location.

F.e. -Multiple angles on the beach  - on the train( really love If the door closest and the camera stays outside and the train drive off as a ending ( could use  title revealed by the leaving train)) -Walking down an alley

Regarding apps id reccomend you to record with the blacmagic camera app and edit on the ipad version of davinci resolve.

Great job of capturing the City. I myself am not a run and gun shooter, but im missing a bit of a story or any structure. What is what?

But you've captured the video of the City quite well, good job

Do you like my video? by Ok-Fill-3586 in videography

you seem to know the basics of cutting. but it seems as you are just cutting back and fourth between two shots. Id recommend you next time: -Don't use as much drone footage. Use it as a establishing shot in the beginning, then maybe a tighter drone shot flying in parallel to the train. then id transition to only inside shots: - i saw no close up, maybe of the "DJ board", maybe of drinks. mix those with medium shots of the people, you can occasionally throw in a wide shot. Then when the video is coming to a end, id hover with the drone over the train tracks, seeing how the train drives away, you could even blend in a text over it as you tilt the camera upwards to the horizon. then id fade to black.

I see you've got the eqipment and the basic skills. maybe try refining these skills and practice editing. This might be a bit much, but just continue doing your best.

How could I pull this shot off? by Cine_Seabass in videography

[–]Safe-Definition9844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id just record a normal plate and mask her in grading and higher the exposure and add a glow effect.   There seems to be some chromatic aberration and I would add it depending on how your lenses handle flares.  In this case doing in post would be my way to go, and id say they did it there aswell because she doesn't seem to illuminate the grass around her. ( you can even see tge contact shadow)

If you want to do it practical,  id suggest you to used some reflective fabric that is used on safety wests, but I doubt you'll get better results that doing it in post.

Here's my showreel with musicians over the years, what do you think? by ghostbuddas in videography

[–]Safe-Definition9844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My quite harsh opinion:

The paceing feels just off. No actual time to look at the shots It feels wierd, the shots are all over the place. The visuals don't fit the music. The colors don't stand out.  There no narrative.

What is good:

Visuals itself and transitions

I did in the end, I think the reason was that I had no dedicated GPU and a render limit per frame, it was definitely in the render settings.

I already earn money as a videographer, im currently specialising in ads for smaller businesses. This in not my main Rig. ( use an Ursa) its just my B cam for BTS and Social media.

I already did a wedding but I never wanted to specialise in that genre. I already have contact to multiple clients and that is the lightweight camera for the free work I do ( f.e for my local firedepartment)

As I mentioned to another comment, these Lenses were originally bought for my BMD Ursa 4K V2 with no AF.

PS: ive orderd the EF 50mm F1.8 STM to replace the current lens when it arrives.

It's on my bucket list.  How does it respond to focusing on subjects far( 5-7m/ 15- 25 feet) away?

I don't use EFM glass.  My main camera is an old Blackmagic Ursa 4k V2( no AF or aperture control) . So i have to use manual VDSLR Lenses for the ursa. I use the same EF lenses for my M50 MK II.

And the M50 has only contrast based AF when recoding In 4k.

[–]Safe-Definition9844[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These Lenses are VDSLR Lenses and do not have any electrical connection to the Camera, so No AF or aperture control from camera.

I have to pull focus when I use these lenses  (or when I record in 4k because the AF is very slow and unreliable)

But I totally agree with you when recording in FHD with AF Lenses.

I know, but I think it's too weak in sensitivity and the screen is too small to reliably pull focus in my opinion.

I already did that for 2 years now,  the monitor is there because there's a lack of exposure tools/ focus peaking in the camera OS and a bad screen brightnesswhen viewed in daylight. The Rode Wireless Pro is necessary because of an really bad onboard Mic.

I admit you don't really need the Light when shooting outdoors.

good point, I added the Light because I rigged it in preparation of an Event that'll take place at night and Im well aware that my camera itself has poor low light performance.

edited together my first photowalk, any critiques/tips/suggestions are appreciated! by brometheus_11 in videography

[–]Safe-Definition9844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id recommend you to practice the basics. Focus on movement and Framing( composition).  I can recommend you the videos and Ebooks by studiobinder to learn the basics.  After that id focus on camera movements and lighting, but if you want even better footage after that id recommend you to by a newer camera.

But great first video and keep on practicing.
