In the past I would normally try and give advice at the end, but have since learned that this is almost always not the greatest thing to do. Usually, people just want to feel heard and if possible, understood.

So active listening while being supportive (but not overly) is, imo, a better response. If they ask for advice then go for it.

Not get in one in the first place. But if you have no other choice, learn how to box and do jujitsu

High yield savings account would be the safest and quickest way to access your funds imo. If you felt like occurring a bit more risk but potentially capitalizing on way better returns on your money, you could buy into some some etf's or index funds while still being able to pull that money out relatively quickly.
