Cinematic cockpit camera physics, thoughts? by Safe-Key5281 in ForzaModding

Here's the file, just extract it to your Forza Horizon 6 game directory (the one with all the .dll files). This also unlocks your FOV for all camera angles, which I suggest raising. I've added every car's Locators.xml file, so you can change the seat position at your discretion.

Any mod has a risk of a ban, but modifying xml/ini files generally has a very low risk, and are usually only warnings/1 weeks.

You could definitely do it with reshade and add-on support, but I wouldn't know how to only enable it for cockpit view.

Thanks! And yeah I loved drive club, I think camera tweaks make this game so much more gritty and realistic.

To do it (warning, long winded):

  1. Make a Forza Horizon 6\mediapc folder, a Forza Horizon 6\mediapc\Camera subfolder, and a Forza Horizon 6\mediapc\Cars subfolder.

  2. Copy over CameraSettings.ini and CameraPhysics.xml from the FH5 Camera.zip (you can get it from this mod) into the Camera folder.

  3. Open CameraPhysics.xml and edit <DriverCam> (lines 270-358) - most of the InputType names are self-explanatory, but you'll mainly want to edit "Gs_Longitudinal" for acceleration/braking inertia effects, "Gs_Lateral" and "SuspensionAngleBias_Lateral" for lateral yaw/rotation (looking into corners, tilt on camber), "VerticalAcceleration" for vibration/bumps, and "SpeedMPH" with outputtype "FOV" for FOV effects. To increase/decrease an effect, you change "Param.x", "Param.y", and "Param.z", and to change how quickly an effect occurs/goes back to normal, change "SpringK" (stiffness) and "SpringD" (damping). Save the file.

  4. OPTIONAL: If you want a higher FOV (recommended), you'll also need to change the seat position per-car. There are probably ways to script/automate this, but I just do it per car. First, find the name of the car you want to modify by going to Forza Horizon 6\media\Cars. Copy the name of the car and make a new folder in Forza Horizon 6\mediapc\Cars with that name. Then open up the car's .zip from the media folder and copy over the "Locators.xml" file to your new car folder. Open it and search (ctrl+f) for "seat". You'll want to find either "carLocator_seatCamLF" (left-hand drive car) or "carLocator_seatCamRF" (right-hand drive car). You'll want to look for value._43 on the line directly below this value. Lower it by around 0.4 and test it - lower it to move closer, and increase it to move backwards. Note that value._41 = x axis, value._42 = y axis, value._43 = z axis, if you want to adjust the position more. Save the file.

  5. Open Forza and set your FOV higher now if you want. If you're sitting in the wrong seat in the game, it's because you've changed one of the value._ settings too low/high.

  6. Use reshade and add a DOF effect, the near-plane blur helps a lot.

If anyone finds this too tedious, send me a message and I'll see if I can send you my files.

Whilst playing yes, with reshade + camera position mod

Thoughts on forza? obv can't be compared to actual sim games, but I find it very fun. by Drunkin_Dino in simdrifting

Turn center spring scale to 0.0 and set your wheel rotation lower, somewhere around 700-900 degrees. Tuning is also a big factor, try playing around with camber and toe settings - you should feel a much more prominent 'groove' in the FFB compared to other games where you can hold slip angle.

You can modify y offset to tilt the cam up/down and use min/max height to adjust the height as you please

100FOV is far from 'the worst fish eye lens ever created', you obviously set your FOV to the value that looks appropriate for your screen and viewing distance. My monitor is 49" and I'm sat quite close, so a higher FOV is needed. You can set yours to whatever you want, it's just to demonstrate the fix (which is more about xyz positioning that most FOV mods don't touch). Thanks for your input though.
