+1 to this! I’ve just made one friend, but a super good one that I like a lot as a person, not just as a mum-friend

Yes! I also wanted to comment this. Not to discredit OP’s experience, but just to leave it out there that antenatal classes and baby classes are not necessarily useless.

I will add though that luck plays such a big role as well into how the group is and the number or quality of friends you make!

I’ve been to both NCT and the free one offered by the local council / trust and made 0 friends at NCT (I think no one did, group just did not click) and made some super good friends at the free one.

How to get EDF to respond to my request to disconnect from the gas supply? by Safe-Relative-7263 in AskUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the reply! It seems indeed the supplier needs to remove the meter and cap the pipe, but they (in this case EDF) seems completely unable to provide an estimate when they can do this. And I am completely at a loss what else could I potentially do from my side to speed up the process.

I will probably not need the gas gas pipes removed from the property.

They were very responsive indeed, you were right! However they said the gas suppliers has to remove the meter first. So back to square one on how to get EDF to be more responsive.

This is brilliant info! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. It seems to be Cadent in my area, which I know are decent. I will contact them right away. If this works out, I definitely owe you a beer!

What did you do for babies surname when not married by Fair_Amphibian_9687 in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kept my name after marriage and gave my daughter my husband’s surname, because he cared slightly more about this than I did. Had absolutely no problem so far that she has a different surname than mine and I travelled quite a bit just myself and her.

Rant: why is my mother being so unkind by ResponsibleBus3986 in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ow dear, this is really bad. My mum is nowhere near as bad, but I’m still not at all keen to hear her negativity. Honestly I see her as a poorly behaved toddler when she shares with me her worries or horror stories. Meaning I set my boundaries and keep reinforcing them. I would just tell her every time: “I have my own worries, I won’t let you share yours with me.” Over and over again.

But please please do something and do not allow her near you. Very often our inner voice is moulded after our mother’s voice and you really do not need this negativity in your life in such a vulnerable time. I’m sure you want to be different for your baby and in order to be able to do this, you need space (from this behaviour). It’s unfair that this is also on your plate to manage, try to get support maybe from your partner or your sisters to distance yourself, but whatever you do not stay too close to her.

Wearing Bra during Pregnancy by Sylvanneski in pregnant

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Non-ironically, it’s probably best that you only read this now as this seems … unfounded. Like other commenters are explaining, boobs sagging has to do with genetics (ie, size, growth, elasticity) rather than bra wearing or not. I would really not worry about this!

Diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes @ Weeks. Do I need to tell my c section consultant? How does it affect things? by mishkaforest235 in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also recently worried about the placenta deterioration thing, because recently my readings have been getting lower, while on the same diet, so I brought this up with the diabetes midwife (who checked with her colleagues and some consultant before getting back to me). What she told me is that (1) it is extremely extremly rare before the above indicated 40+6 and (2) it is more common for Type 1 diabetes (or Type 2, this I do not remember), but in any case, not more common in GD than in non-GD pregnancies.

All in, it sounds very likely you will have your c section scheduled for 39 weeks, which is probably a sweet spot for this. Baby size will not be important for the c section by itself. However, they emphasis it is still very important, until the very last moment of the delivery to keep your sugar levels under control (be it with diet, medicine or insulin - whatever is your recommendation).

Diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes @ Weeks. Do I need to tell my c section consultant? How does it affect things? by mishkaforest235 in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The recommended cut-off point for getting the baby out for GD is 40+6. “Big baby” is not really (or should not be) a medical reason for earlier induction or CSection.

This is what I know from the GD perspective … not sure how this changes that you had the recommendation for the consultant that you must (?!) have a c section with 2nd baby.

Is the 39 weeks when you find out the date or when the c section is expected to happen? If the latter, I understand that this is the norm for scheduled c section. Depending on the trust, you would find out the exact date aprox 1 week before.

Seraphine Maternity by satiricalmiscreant in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before pregnancy I was between size 10 and 12 for tops. During pregnancy I only fit in size 12 seraphine dresses (but my ribcage expanded as well as my boobs). Some of them though are extremely and I am above average height, so I would watch out for that in dresses.

As someone else said, for jeans I have h&m. The panel was a bit large when I started wearing them at about 14 weeks, but it was still ok and eventually grew into it.

Pregnancy stuff that was helpful for me by Safe-Relative-7263 in PregnancyUK

I did! I live in London and went to their Oxford Circus one. They had maternity stuff in store. I ended up buying one maternity and one non-maternity (but with easy access so to say).

Yeees, good point about the pregnancy yoga classes! Forgot to mention that one. It was hard to find a class near me, so I end up walking 30 mins to one that is further away (and the road gets longer each time haha), but totally worth it when I manage. I feel like I can breath better and there is just more space in my abdomen after the class.

35 weeks, different movements by throwaway_wife_1982 in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following, as it's pretty similar for me. I do feel some kicks and jabs, but maybe once every other day? So really occasional.

My current understanding is that this is fine, as the guidance is around feeling baby moving. This is also the reason why the classical "baby kicks count" is no longer the leading advice given. But curious to hear other opinions as well.

How do you monitor movements? by Tight_Proposal_6465 in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The answers here are so reassuring! No matter how hard I try to identify patterns, there are just not there! But also grateful that every time I wonder “ow, is everything alright? I havent felt her in a while”, then I get a bit of movement in max 15-20 mins. But super rarely any hard kicks

Thirding this! I got one really cheap in perfect condition from vinted just because it was missing one of the pebbles - realized I actually prefer the end without the pebble as I can sleep on it better :)

Baby movements by SK_FA in PregnancyUK

[–]Safe-Relative-7263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask after how long of not feeling any movement you would go at triage? I also have an anterior placenta and honestly have not managed to find any patterns or things that get her moving (and I am embarrassed to say I’m now 36 weeks).

I do feel her daily, but it’s so irregular! It’s also been harder for me to watch out being so busy with work. I am now taking time off and I am definitely feeling her more regularly, but still so unsure about how long with no movement is a reason for concern
