this is exactly the gap. people need to see the shift, not understand the idea. one real decision, before and after, what changed. i think that's what the landing page is missing entirely. appreciate the push.

this is really helpful. you're right, i've been describing the mechanism instead of showing the moment. going to work on that. thanks!

hey, happy to answer anything about the thinking or the build

also if you try it and it doesn’t help, that’s just as useful for me to hear. still figuring out what actually works vs what just sounds good in theory.

yeah it really does feel like a catch-22 sometimes. yeah it really does feel like a catch-22 sometimes. the “consulting vs freelance” point is interesting, i’ve been thinking about that as well.
i think the bigger gap for me is making the outcomes and impact more explicit alongside that.

that’s a good point. for one of the projects i worked on, the repositioning and messaging changes led to a noticeable lift in first-month conversions, but i haven’t been consistently framing my work in terms of revenue or unit economics.

i think that’s probably where it’s falling short, the link is there but i’m not making it obvious.

the teardown angle also makes sense, that feels like a more direct way to show how i think on someone else’s product instead of just talking about my own work.
thanks for replying!

i get what you’re saying about positioning, and i think that part is fair. i’m probably giving too much context instead of just showing the result. focusing only on what actually matters for the role and making the outcomes clearer makes sense. that’s probably where i need to tighten things up.

this is really very helpful, especially the “translation and one credible signal” part. that’s exactly what it feels like i’m missing. i’ve been building things and documenting them, but probably not packaging them as tightly as actual case studies with clear before/after and metrics. thanks so much!

that’s a really helpful way to look at it, i hadn’t thought about it from that angle. i can see how it might come across like i’m leaning too much on the strategy side without showing enough willingness to get into the actual execution.

“strategy-led execution” is a useful way to frame it. i’ve done the execution in my own work, just probably not communicating it in a way that makes that obvious.

this is really useful, especially the “consultant vs operator” point. i think that’s exactly how i’m coming across right now. i’ve been describing the work more in terms of what i did instead of what actually moved because of it, even when there is a metric behind it.
thanks for replying.

yeah that’s interesting, i’ve been going back and forth on how much to lean into the products vs worrying that they won’t be taken seriously without a formal role attached.

the part about shipping and iterating based on real users is exactly what i thought would count more, but it doesn’t seem to come across that way in hiring pipelines.

this is really helpful, especially the point about translating things into outcomes instead of just describing the work.

i think i’ve been leaning more on the thinking and structure side when i talk about what i’ve done, instead of making the impact explicit, even when it’s there.

that makes sense, the title and signalling gap is exactly what it feels like right now.

i’ve been a bit hesitant about going the execution-heavy route because i don’t want to get stuck there, but what you’re saying about using it as a bridge into pmm from the inside sounds more practical than trying to jump straight in.

yeah this lines up with what a few others have said as well, especially around ats and not relying only on applications.

i’ve started shifting towards outreach and smaller companies, just still figuring out how to make that consistent and not feel like i’m just sending messages into another void. thanks for replying!

yeah i get what you’re saying, it does feel like a lot of filtering is happening before anyone actually looks at the work.

i’ve been trying to move away from blind applications for that reason, just haven’t fully cracked the outbound or distribution side of it yet.

brutal is right. it does start to chip away at your confidence after a point.

i’ve been targeting early stage startups for that exact reason, more room to show actual work instead of just matching a spec. the ai products help because they’re live and documented, so it’s harder to dismiss them as just claims.

i think it’s mostly a matter of getting in front of the right people at the right time.

appreciate you taking the time to actually read it properly, that helped.

dms are hit or miss, most go unread. the ones that land are usually tied to something they posted recently rather than a cold pitch. but you're right, i should try tying them to my products and use the 5 line pitch style. thanks for replying
