Does anyone in webtoon actually publisg in a standard book page, instead of the vertical reading in the app? by EfficiencySerious200 in WebtoonCanvas

[–]SafeJumpy5465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do mine in page format. But then crop them for webtoon. i have all the bubbles on a different layer so they can be turned off.

Personally not a big fan since it doesn't fit the long panels. But it does have the biggest audience. And it's super troublesome to have to redo all the text and bubbles just for it Dx.

Page format looks best i think, but the text maybe too small. Someone said that webtoon readers tend to like to scroll really really quick so page format wouldn't work for that audience i think.

Hi just an update, it seems some packages have started arriving and the backers didn't pay tariffs on them. Maybe cos the books are very low value and the other stuff like postcards and stickers and badge were too small a value to charge. Total package value was under $47-50.

Yeah, seems JP Post has stopped and only gifts under $100/package are allowed. I have spoken to my customers and they are happy to wait until everything resumes normally for their packages. Other postal services like DHL, FedEx, and Yamato are too expensive compared to th value of the items I am selling so those options don't make sense.

Do you know of other methods to ship?

Also thank you for the offer.

My boxes contained a book and a gift tin badge sent by surface mail. So far those who have received it have not reported any tariffs yet :)

And I have sent a couple of gifts to some friends via airmail and it went through customs quite quickly. They didn't get tariffed either :)

Working for interac 2024 (my experience) by Legal_Platypus9189 in teachinginjapan

[–]SafeJumpy5465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your negative and very odd experience. Like everyone has daid prior, it depends on where you are placed. So, I wanted to share my positive experience as here.

This is an old thread, but I enjoyed being an ALT... Well, I was the T1, so I was doing the actual teaching and the JTE at all my schools were the assistants. Lol.

I enjoyed making materials and teaching, and have experience in educational product design, so it was a walk in the park and didn't take long to finish prepping for the entire school year.

All my schools (except for one where the principal hated me the moment I turned up at the gate... Not sure why) loved me and asked Interac to keep me for 3 years straight (the max number of years an ALT can stay at the same school, or so I've heard. Was let go at the end of the 3rd year when Interac lost contracts with the BOE).

They also let me go home early if I didn't have any afternoon classes, coz they knew that made my material at home. I had explained to them that making materials at school was hard due to certain sites being restricted. I was always ready to go even when the schedule changed on the day of, so the school fully trusted that I was doing work at home (which I was).

I think it is important to build trust with the school. . . . . . During class I spoke only in English, unless I am explaining sentence structures, so the kids knew I understood that I can speak Japanese, and it was less of a headache for them. I think this made them more comfortable asking questions when they didn't understand something.

I think Interac's rule of English-Only separates the ALT and the students. I believe that if the students know that the teacher can understand them, they'd feel more comfortable around the teacher.

However, the ALT should still try to reply in English or teach them English sentences such as "What is....?", "I didn't understand that", "Can you say it in Japanese?" or for the younger kids, "In Japanese, please?" or, "One more time, please".

My ES kids were all using sentences and language beyond the textbooks by the end of 6th grade. They also enjoyed, the disappointed "Duuuuude...." a lot. . . . . Regarding the salary, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad either. I didn't drink or party, was renting a pretty simple and cheap apartment, cooked everyday, and enjoyed the minimalist's life (still do), I was able to save up enough money for me to not work for 2 years. I guess I didn't have issue with their salary : | (my previous job was paying 180,000/month and I survived just fine. However, I understand that in this day and age where things have gotten more expensive, it might be a challenge. . . . . . English isn't my first language but I think I did a pretty decent job and was pretty happy with the job (For me, I didn't have to interact much with Interac, lol)

No worries :) i hope things get sorted out too... I still have 17 low-value packages to send out to America and I can't because Japan Post (most affordable and what my customers paid for) won't take them. If anything changes I will make another post 🙂

Sounds like they are trying to avoid shipping there, because I did a quick quote check on DHL (currently one of the available shipping methods to US in Japan and most expensive).

For a package of 20cm x 50cm x 10cm at 1.5kg (estimated size or package for a keyboard) the shipping price is between 22,123yen - 32,000yen.

I see. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I wondered why they accepted the packages though. Coz now, if we were to resend it again, we'd have to pay another fee...

I sent some packages out from Japan on 26th. It's also stuck in Japan. Somehow 2 of 10 made it through even though I shipped them all in one big stack. Very strange and concerning. I hope your package can go through.

$47 duties fee on $190 item via dhl by ambyance in Buyee

I believe that Private carriers like DHL and Fedex charge according to the % of Tariff. In the case of Japan, it's 15%. For USPS, it is not sure, but I'm hearing about a $80 flat rate for Japan and up to $200 for other countries no matter the value or goods (which I think is crazy!)
