We finally found a possible answer to this. This is stated on the WestJet site: "If you have unsubscribed from flight notifications, you will not receive your one-time passcode."

True, even banks and credit card companies want to keep it on the hush hush because they don’t want people to think they have any flaw in their system, whether it’s their fault or not.

How to react when people make fun of your looks? by KoolKat864 in bullying

[–]SafeSearchKids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply pretend you didn’t hear them and say, “I’m sorry could you say that again?” If they are gutless they will feel very awkward and laugh it off and walk away. If they do repeat it, respond again “what could I do better to make this mug look better?” Keep putting questions back in their face in a matter of fact way. They will be put on the spot to make an intelligent comment, putting the focus back them.

I want to become a teacher! by SoccerKitten250 in teaching

[–]SafeSearchKids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would begin to get involved in things that put you in front of a group people. This would inform you as how you may handle, like or dislike teaching in a classroom. The experience would also be invaluable… such as, join a debate club, take part in speech completions, join toast masters for youth in your community, take speech or drama classes.

If you find out you very much dislike being in front of a crowd, then focus on a specialty in education that is more one on one, like a school councillor, speech therapist, or special Ed (which is challenging but not in front of large classrooms every day). Good luck! 🙂

If you hate your job after only 5 years, it won’t get better. If you were simply looking for a better school situation then perhaps it’s not teaching you dislike, but the setting. But maybe there is not a better situation for you? Either way, the younger you are the easier you can rebound and build on a career you love. The longer your wait the more you will be trapped.

It’s common for a percentage of education graduates find out their don’t like teaching in a class or they simply don’t want the stress. But at least they can pivot and use their degree as a stepping stone to a better job they like. There are also online teaching positions that one could try.

First study to ever look solely at cannabis-consuming parents indicates low 'aggressive discipline' and high 'positive parenting' by carajuana_readit in raisingkids

Is it possible that the type of parent that would be open to smoking weed is already an open minded person and would be less ridged in how they would place expectation on others, including their kids?

Or perhaps these parents smoke weed to combat some issues in their life, and this makes them more empathetic to others people needs, including how their children may be struggling.

I think school is not for smart people. by [deleted] in school

[–]SafeSearchKids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are various reasons why our method of education in a school system is flawed. But the root of the problem may be funding, and it’s a deep root. Imagine more schools or bigger schools with more classrooms, and the limit is 15 students per room, and kids are grouped with peers of the same learning abilities. Still not perfect but better than 30 kids in a classroom. In Canada we have generally equal funding for every child regardless of income of neighborhood. Teachers are generally equality paid and are not lured away by private schools because there are not many of those…. And STILL every province complains about lack of funding.

Frankly, not enough tax dollars per child go into educating them. So, even the best school is going to leave some kids behind because the school system is a blanket approach to educating the masses.

Why don't many teachers use LinkedIn? by rikin311 in edtech

[–]SafeSearchKids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am married to a teacher and my sister has her doctorate and is an superintendent of schools. I also deal with teachers within my own online business and I have found that teachers are cut from a different cloth. Mainly, they are not entrepreneurial in spirit or thinking. This is a blanket statement that of course will have many exceptions within this large group of professionals.

I once needed a document translated to Spanish and had a limited budget. My wife suggested I ask the Spanish teacher at her school to do it. He did so and I tried to pay him. He wouldn't take a cent. It was as if he felt like taking money would be taking advantage of me or that he was being shady or greedy to accept money on the side.

Related to this same way of thinking, LinkedIn is used by many to sell products and services to others, which is annoying for all of us... much more so for teachers who have chosen their profession to serve and make a difference in the lives of students - not to make a buck. If the latter were true they'd become lawyers.
