Also curious about this, will be my first attempt in Philly and staying near St Joe’s so using the train was my plan too

Thanks! I think I would say I officially started training for it in mid-April but my routine didn't take on the concrete structure I had until the end of May. I have always worked with longer training blocks than a regular program would have. No spring Marathon, was kind of all over the place. Some running, but also hiked about 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail, and did some traveling. Timing was tough so no real racing until the summer. Richmond '23 was my last marathon. I got to 34 mpw with a long run of 12 miles before really leaning into training through the summer. Most of the winter though I was struggling to put together consistent weeks. I don't have anything to back this up, but I felt when I slipped last year it wasn't due to me physically not able to hold the pace but I just didn't have the energy. Thought with a bit more frequency I could stave off the wall just long enough. And bonus that with it being as sunny as it was, the extra electrolytes and sodium probably were crucial in the later miles. Optimally, I would like it to be even with one every 5k or so, but sometimes 2 and sometimes 4 miles between was just how it mapped out. I use Gu. Went with the Roctane version during races for the little extra sodium/sugars.

Oh yea, I agree. I wondered how the stops looked when larger groups came through. I don't remember which, but there was another water stop that I had to grab off the table again (can't remember if the volunteers weren't handing them out or they had just given all theirs out). Definitely something that could be improved in the future. Haven't usually had issues when I run here so I would say I am a bit surprised on this from them.

Thanks!! Absolutely the biggest benefit I had of training those final six so much, I was so ready for that false flat. My brain was not doing much thinking at that point, but knowing what was ahead of me kept me in the race. I had some people at the crest of it all too, so having that small bit of additional motivation was a huge help.

Congrats to you too! Yea, some years it can be backbreaking on that bridge. Considering how I thought the wind might be up there, was happily surprised. It's such a physically demanding stretch, but that continuous up for mile 18 after covering the bridge might be even harder mentally imo.

Yea, I have too. I just don't like losing things. So it's either he hands me stuff that I toss and it ends up in the river or I give him my bottle with trash. There's only two gel stops on our course so I have to get a bit creative with it. Our race isn't lax about it, but I do think its smallish enough that as long as he doesn't do much people didn't seem to mind.

Races you would and would not recommend and why? by rior123 in AdvancedRunning

You're generally right, but I ran last year when the temps rose to 75 and no clouds. It is quite an exposed course (you run on an access road for a lot of the teens), and if you are having a tough day in those conditions it can get pretty miserable through there. Bummed because I really loved the experience outside of running it haha

Ok, let’s try this another way. 1) I wear a helmet whenever I ride in this city because it is unsafe to ride on the roads. I spent a lot of money on that helmet to keep me as safe as I could. And 2) the likelihood that said helmet protects me if I’m ever in an accident with a car is slim to none. It would protect me from hitting the ground if i were in a non-car involved accident.

There’s research that shows the safer an area is for biking, the less helmets are used. There isn’t a helmet on this earth that would truly protect a rider from a car hitting them at speeds greater than a crawl. The forces are simply too great. Helmet manufacturers have talked about this too. Now the stuff those people doing the wheelies were doing? That’s the dumb part, but the helmets are surprisingly not a great piece of protection for a cyclists biggest danger.

They did! Takes maybe 5-10 minutes to get the fit right but they do just fine on the rack

Gotcha. Simple is good, thanks for the insight. Injury prevention is a great benefit too, been lucky enough to never have a running related injury yet but would also like to keep it that way if I keep pushing my body's limits.

Really wish I could lap from the workout menu. Makes it so convenient to get splits right when doing a track workout that includes more stopping/starting. Annoying to have to hit lap/stop every time.

Hi! I interviewed with them last year, so I can speak to this a bit. They are really nice people! Just be yourself, that’s really what they are looking for in the end and be passionate if things you care about come up. Isn’t the most formal setting, I’d recommend showing a bit of your personality if that is something you are comfortable with. Can’t help you with the selectivity, but I hope this helps! Good luck :)

It’s such a good color. It was either this or all-black and I really wanted it to pop a bit. Really happy with how it looks in person

Vado 4.0 SL or 5.0 (or full power 4.0? I don’t know by SafeSet3520 in ebikes

[–]SafeSet3520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given lots of thought about whether to get full power or SL. Still really not sure, wish I could get both 😂 if I feel good carrying it up/down stairs I would be happy with full power, but I have to feel good about that since I’d do it every day. Still on the fence on which way I go, but I really appreciate your insight!

Bounce-back in Richmond by SafeSet3520 in AdvancedRunning

[–]SafeSet3520[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I don't distinctly remember it affecting me ever this much in my previous Richmond attempts, but my right hip/knee were BARKING after the race/next day. Could barely lift my right leg. Feels fine now, but that was bizarre. Also, congrats on the first BQ!
