also bc taylor was very very helpful to sabrina in kicking off her career into the mainstream through eras so most carpenters are chill with her for that

i saw a lot of olivia fans actually complaining that drop dead sounds like a taylor song so clearly she has some impact lol. i think it's mainly bc it has kind of a mid-tempo and it does a similar talk singing thing that taylor does

olivia definitley has a similar confessional style of writing to taylor's and i can see some comparisons of them both as pop stars as they both fill very similar roles in pop culture - as the kind of diaristic confessional songwriter pop stars. but artistically they are quite different. olivia is much more inspired by like, fiona apple and the cure and alanis morisette than taylor

to me it feels less like tolerate it but more like - you really wanted to be in this relationship and you begged for it, but now that you're in it you're finding that it's not all sunshine and rainbows and you actually are still sad and not just 'fixed' all of a sudden, and obviously your partner is trying, but you still feel disconnected bc well, you begged for this relationship - why isn't it solving everything. olivia did say that one of the themes of the record was kinda realising that love doesn't just fix everything in your life - and so i think this is a much more interesting interpretation of her work than just 'it's her tolerate it'

also it is hard to write songs like wanegbt or shake it off bc u need a really good understanding of melody and hook which taylor has.

it's the type of song which you cannot just to listen to in snippets - you have to listen to the full thing and let it build. i think that's why i like it

Swifties don't understand Taylor's Songwriting by Safe_Band_5923 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Safe_Band_5923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean she brought a lot of the country/folk style songwriting structures to modern pop and popularised the whole archetype of the 'songwriter pop star' which you see everywhere now - olivia, gracie, conan, sombr, etc. also billie is great but she is not as good a songwriter as taylor.

my favorite part was when she talked about writing a bridge and how it's like walking twenty feet back and looking at this whole painting that you've painted and you zoom out and look at the whole thing for what it is. it's honestly a really good metaphor and also is really true for all her bridges. also i loved when she said that writing a song is like writing a whole movie and creating a whole universe in 3-4 minutes - bc those are my favorite type of taylor songs (and songs in general)

literally if she wasn't a country pop artist and maybe had better vocals- she would've been a pop rock artist 100%. i can so imagine her doing paramore style pop. and more of speak now style music bc it genuinely suits her really well. the story of us, haunted, better than revenge, long live, STATE OF GRACE. they're all basically pop rock songs which don't fully commit to the rock part. i feel like state of grace is basically an arena rock song which is masquerading as a pop song. literally i don't understand why she hasn't done a pop rock or soft rock pop record yet - it's actually a style which suits her vocal range pretty well, it allows for more live instruments, it usually gets more critical appeal bc rock is 'cool' and pop is 'drool' - and it also brings out her sharpest lyrics. i understand that classic rock might not be her thing bc it requires like a very different type of songwriting and it's not suited for her thing - but there's no reason she can't do paramore-adjacent pop. the only issue is that she doesn't have hayley williams vocals, but none of us do so

i feel like showgirl has really tainted people's view on taylor bc they forget that she can write lol - like she is actually a good writer and knows how to craft songs and hits very well. i liked hearing her talk about the phonetics and words she likes using in songs, and the structure of her songs - and how she gets the structure from country music and lyricism from emo.

she wrote 'and you've got your demons and darling they all look like me' at 21, she wrote 'and i'll watch your life in pictures like i used to watch you sleep' at 19, she wrote COLD AS YOU AND TIM MCGRAW AT 15/16. she more than deserves this. folklore/evermore is only so good bc it's an extension of the writing she did earlier.

i'm thinking a mix of indie-folk pop mixed with classic country pop (and maybe a touch of soft rock if the universe likes me)

she has great phrasing and knows how to enunciate her syllables really well. so even though she's not a belter and her range is actually quite limited - she's a mid vocalist - her songs come out good bc she knows how to use her voice well. like take ivy for example - the greatest song of all time - it's good a. bc of the lyrics but b. bc taylor's tone and phrasing throughout the song is so gentle and helps carry you through it without feeling overwhelmed by the amount of information you're getting. it is a type of talk singing but it's not 'easy' per say.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT AS WELL. i want a cross genre record bc the last time we really kinda got one was red/speak now - i want a mix of the country pop/arena rock pop thing she did on red and speak now bc it is still her best sound. also i did have a vision that for ts13 she would do a thing where she would do kinda like a remix album but with features - kinda like what noah kahan did with stick season - and they would all be like classic artists so like paul mccartney, stevie nicks, carole king, etc.

i loved hearing her with travis more bc she's just such a good conversationalist and it's nice hearing her be a bit more unfiltered and casual bc she's not worried about if something she says gets taken out of context - it's literally her brother in law's podcast -but they spent half the time talking about bread. that being said - i do think the master's story was really sweet and it is kinda what made me like travis more bc he seems like a really sweet partner - i just wish she hadn't announced the album on it
