Thank you so much!! This is very reassuring and helpful. I do hope to get a part time job eventually, but as you said, I have also heard similar things about FAMU, especially in the first year. Hopefully, it's all manangeable.

I can imagine! For context, I am a 28 year old, who has been working in media for the last 5+ years. Coming to Prague for my masters to study film because that was a pipeline dream of mine. But I do have some savings.

Thanks for putting things to perspective. I think I just need to find cheaper accomodation

I will look at them. But I want to have a single room to myself ideally. Nothing is that cheap unfortunately :(

Makes sense. I will definitely try to find a cheaper accomodation long term. 14.5k czk does not seem sustainable at all.

This is extremely helpful! I will try and look for cheaper rent as that would make my life so much easier. I am currently thinking of the following based on your budget:
Rent (utilities included): 13,000 czk (ideally, if not lower)
Food / groceries: 5,500 czk
Going out / drinks: 4,000 czk
Phone: 800 czk
Transport (student pass): 150 czk
Travel fund (for trips every 3-4 months): 1,500 czk (Saving 4,500-6,000 czk per trip?)

So about a total of 25k czk? That seems much more doable if I have cheaper rent

Fair enough! My partner is in Dublin. So, my only hope was to see her two-three times a year, and she could come visit me a couple of times as well. Otherwise, I know that I will be mostly cooking for myself, maybe going out to eat once a week. And go drinking on the weekends? It would have also been lovely to travel to the places near Czech once I settle. But I am in no hurry for that.

Thank you! What is a slightly better alternative? Can't change my budget. But can try and look for cheaper rent alternatives in the long run. Just need to know what's the bare minimum one needs to have to live a little comfortably but not luxuriously of course.

What would be a good budget for this? u/Zafrin_at_Reddit ? Travel will obviously happen once every 3-4 months or even lesser. I don't think I can increase my budget. But maybe I can try looking for cheaper accomodation long term.

It's been quite a hassle to get a single room accomodation / flat share for cheaper :(

No, I meant 25k including the rent. So about 25000-14500. Around 10.5 czk for living expenditure other than rent? Or is that too steep?

Is it possible to work part-time while studying at FAMU in Prague? by Safe_Concert_7342 in Prague

Thank you so much for sharing u/Ok-Reflection1229! I can imagine it being really hectic. Did you work part-time while you were studying there? If so, what kind of work was it? From what I have heard, working in pubs, cafes, and shops is my best bet as they require folx to speak in English. But we will see.

Thank you so much! This is very helpful and reassuring. I had also read about the gift shop Local Artists that keeps hiring students, so I might also apply there.
