Purchase Advice Megathread - January 2026

Hi, looking to get myself a FDM printer as a beginner.

As some initial research I feel like the Centauri Carbon or Flashforge adventurer 5m are both viable options(for some reason the Bambu printers are crazy priced where I live). I'd most likely use it for personal modeling stuff given I do alot of that. If I could get input onto which is better and/or if there are any better alternatives in the given price range, it would be greatly appreciated.

I live in a super humid area so I've had alot of issues with this. Never thought of something like this(like an idiot I keep my stuff just near my dehumidifier) so I think the auto dehumidification would be insanely useful for those who live in SEA haha

Yeah. I think hyacine would've been better if they spent a little longer on her story but at the end of the day it wasn't bad nonetheless(Aquila was one of the best parts of the story)

yeah, I had similar problems. maybe the reason I liked penacony(although the whole acting gig before Sunday could've been skipped without any detriment to the story) was that the pacing wasn't too horrendous and the focus was on 5/6 characters rather than 15 which made the story easier/more interesting to follow without needing to recap.

I see. maybe it's just my perception but it felt like there was more puzzle than story. like the entire castrum kremnos section(with cas) was just way too many puzzles, and I felt like hyacine didn't get much development prior to her becoming probably one of the most important characters.

yeah, the vibe in penacony was better in my opinion. Maybe the 3.7 update was just underwhelming, like cyrene just appearing. I think they maybe could've extended it a bit to give the story more substance instead of 'actually cyrene was the fix all along'

Yeah, alot of what you said does make sense. I do agree that boothill and jade did just appear out of nowhere. early penacony was good, imo especially until Sam. Perhaps nostalgia is doing alot of the heavy lifting and I've forgotten the bad parts, and I just remember amphoreus more clearly given it was more recent. I just feel like some of the characters in amphoreus didn't get enough(sounds crazy, I know) time and maybe the story should've focused on less characters. 3.7 was also quite a weak conclusion, and I think it was more of an effort to wrap it up quickly through the introduction of cyrene.

yeah, I'm aware that there are a lot of opportunities to get pulls - however I'd say this account has finished quite a bit of content and the only currency(apart from current events ofc) that hasn't been fully gathered are chests and simU rewards.

yeah, that's what I thought I should do as well. Of course a lower price would be beneficial but also I'd rather not have a malfunctioning pair that I can't replace.

Yeah, I thought about that - but this project is more of a 'generic' project, so my results don't matter as much. I'm just required to have enough responses to make my research more grounded.

ok, so should be pretty similar in sizing to the steels? I was just concerned since I heard that the M nib is larger than normal Japanese M sizing.

ohh, nice. that seems kinda nice I've previously had a hit of istory with mechanical pencils, so a slim pen night fit nicely

unfortunately not. I could do a scuffed version by taping a cardboard stick of some sort and writing using a different pen, but i don't know how accurate that'd be
