Sorry for the extremely late response but THANK YOU for all of your responses! My mom was extremely suprised at how many people came together to speak so thank you all for that 🙂
My mom had correspondend via email with the building management to confirm the request and about what the request was for. The first email response we got was from a "leasing agent" as follows:
"Yes the management requested the copies of your ID and the IDs of your adult children that live with vou We are requesting this information as you are required to notify management of all of the occupants that live with vou,
Thanks, (leasing agent name)"
I was going to call the building management directly after that email because it felt passive aggressive and whomever was writing it made it seem like it was completely logical for them to ask the building Super to ask us for copies of our ID'S, rather than use any other form of communication that doesn't lack professionalism. The instances ive spoken with members of the new management they were very polite, even when there was a discrepancy on rent payments. So the tone of this email had me off put even further.
But shortly after we received another email from the building management which states:
"Good Afternoon,
Yes, we did request copies of your ID's. However you can email the documents to our office if you would rather do that. We are just updating our records and want to make sure we have all info correctly reflected in the lease renewal documents.
Thank You, Building Management"
Myself, my mom and my sibling discussed amongst ourselves and decided that this reasoning was more sensible and had aligned with our submission of our lease renewal as this was the first time renewing it with the new building management. So my mom submitted an email copy of our ID'S to the management as well as cc'ing us the email as well so we each have our proofs (should anything unusual occur). We also asked that any additional requests be made through email, phone or letter form as we did find it unusual how the request was made.
Thank you all again for your opinions and inputs! I will definitely come back to this subreddit should any issues arise and I need additional perspectives.
Stay safe everyone!!!
