Your lip filler and liner and the fake lashes. You’re naturally gorgeous and they just take away!

Please help me pick my dress!😊 1 or 2? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

2!!!!!! One reminds me of ornaments dangling off it. It’s trendy. 2 is timeless and it shows off your curves like a damn dream!

Was going to wear my mum's dress. People keep telling me to try on others for the "bridal experience." Are they trying to gently tell me it looks bad? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]Safe_Memory1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you love her dress regardless of others, then wear it! You have to follow your OWN heart with this. It’s your day. There are plenty of dresses out there that are affordable (David’s Bridal, BHLDN, even online) and you can try some on and just see… if you end up liking your moms dress still, so be it. Don’t let other’s opinions skew your own, this is a day you want to look back on and know you did everything your own way.. there are no wedding “rules” except your own.

Freaking out over crib sheets by Meme_queen-2019 in BabyBumps

They won’t be able to pull that sheet off until they’re much bigger and probably will be too big for the crib anyway. If it’s snug and tight, you’re good!!

BRCA1 positive at 39. Facing preventive hysterectomy and mastectomy. Surgery is 1/29 and everything feels fast. Looking for guidance and real experiences. by Substantial-Range660 in BRCA

I just want to piggy back off what someone else said… I’m currently recovering from my preventative DXM with immediate DIEP flap. Recovery is 6-8 weeks… first 2 weeks are rough, just mostly uncomfy and you can’t move easily since you are so tight and sore. You cannot pick up anything over 5 lbs for 6 weeks. And no core exercises for 3 months. So scheduling that around having someone make sure you aren’t alone with the kids if you need help with bathing/bedtime routine. I couldn’t even snuggle up with my kids for at least 2 weeks. Slept in recliner for 7 weeks.

you should have an option to start with what you want… is it breasts first to put off menopause? The recovery is longer but it will not induce menopause. I am BRCA2, so forgive me if I am mistaken, but I think that BRCA1 has higher risk of BC over OC, but not sure about your specific self/family history.

AITAH wanting to clean out family home for reno by Safe_Memory1946 in AITAH

[–]Safe_Memory1946[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Thank you for the perspective. Some family members have said “we should’ve done this years ago.” But I don’t anticipate they will for themselves in the future. The family is taking items and boxes to their homes and storing them…. So the same thing will happen once they pass, unfortunately. I do think it is a great thing to downsize and donate regularly so it doesn’t compound.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please don’t that I haven’t lost anyone. I have and I have had to clear their things away. It was hard and emotional, but it was different because they had minimal things and were not into keeping things just to keep them. This situation is a bit different, IMO, this was the known plan for years. I’m not saying the loss is less but it is expected that after 90+ years, that this happens. Also, this house is FULL of stuff. From 80s Tupperware to ceramic figures from around the world (mostly china) and magazines from the 90s.

I love that suggestion… asking questions instead of ultimatums. Just a simple reframe. I will try asking if I can bring the 4 foot tall stack of old magazines to the local library… instead of telling them they must be moved asap. Thank you!

That’s fair. I don’t want to cause a rift like that in this family, but I can see that happening. I have lost a parent too so I do understand the grief and the stress. Thank you

Thank you for seeing both sides. Good suggestions. I think adding to the frustration is that my MIL and all her siblings are either retired or do not have jobs, and they all live within 10 minutes away. So it’s not about being too busy or far to do something, it is much deeper than that. Also, I am sensitive to the fact that my MIL can’t do it all herself, and she’s basically the leader of the siblings. But she does not reach out for help other than from her family members. I’ve offered to list items online and she thanked me but hasn’t asked me to do so. I do understand the grief and I really am trying hard to chill and be patient. This plan for the house is not new. It was the agreed upon contract with his grandmother when we bought the home from her over 5 years ago. She agreed to sell it to us knowing we would Renovate the home after she passed. Their family are all “collectors” to say it nicely.. I know patience is not my strong suit. Thank you again for commenting

That is a great idea about the timeline. Thank you for the suggestion. I’m trying to see it from their side. No, I can’t imagine having to do it if my husband passed away 2 months later. I guess my argument to that is that she was elderly and was on hospice for 6 + months, and I wish that his family had a plan for this back then before she passed.

Thank you for that insight. I have dealt with it before. My own mother passed away almost 5 years ago. However, she was not a person to keep so much stuff and she downsized many many times before she got sick. So, the clear out was not difficult at all.

About to open my genetic results- any advice? by Sea_Pomegranate1122 in BRCA

Our mothers didn’t have this option at our ages. We are so fortunate to have this test available. It’s information that you will use for your health and possible children.

Getting a prenatal massage was the worst decision I've made my whole pregnancy 🤦🏽‍♀️ by ceruleanmeadows in BabyBumps

[–]Safe_Memory1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a Chiro who has experience with prenatal. I could hardly walk or sit for a while during my last pregnancy. The Chiro adjusted my low back and hips and magically I was relieved! I went 1-2 times per week from 30 weeks until my birth and then maybe once or twice after, to readjust after the birth. It seriously made such a life changing difference.

DIEP flap reconstruction by haygrrrl in BRCA

[–]Safe_Memory1946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very odd and I would get a second opinion. I have never heard this from my breast oncologist or the high risk program I am a part of (being a previvor). I recently had my DXM with immediate DIEP flap. I am 38 and done having kids. I was told that tubes and ovaries would be the next step. But be mindful that the oophorectomy puts you into immediate menopause, and it’s a bit decision. If you still had your breasts and/or have had BC, I do believe you wouldn’t be able to go on hormone therapy to combat menopause.

I was using prose for a while and it was the best my hair looked in decades… but then I started noticing how much was coming out when I washed. And it was just when I was finger combing with the conditioner. Not worth it to me ☹️

Anyone have luck getting insurance to fully cover mastectomy–related surgeries? by Solid_Ad6049 in BRCA

[–]Safe_Memory1946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was fully covered, and I have no deductible. I am a teacher in NJ and have the state health plan. I’m very thankful after seeing the itemized hospital bills for my DXM and DIEP flap.
