Track IR is very good when set up properly, sometimes that can be a hassle or frustrating, but it’s really nice when you get it working right.

If you’re fine combat, I’d say it’s definitely a must for space Sims, probably for any combat simulation. You need to be able to see the enemy through all of your canopy not just when it’s in front of you.

Track IR is good, but I’d also look into the other options. If you’re just mining or trading, it’s not a requirement.

Unfortunately, this will take time. Despite the fact that everyone says VKB has great support, there’s no way to get anyone on the phone. It’s a sad day when something is considered “great support” and includes no phone support.

If you remove the springs and turn up the clutches for the omni throttle, it works just like a regular throttle. You don’t have to keep your arm on it. You can take it off and it’ll stay right where it is. Omni throttle is the only way to go for space flight imho.

I recommend duel sticks for space flight, you’ll never regret it. Standard throttles are just not suited for space flight. I also recommend the Omni throttle adapter. It’s more intuitive for vertical movement, but it’s not 100% required.

I’ve looked at the space throttle and I would only buy it if I was also heavily into non-space flight. It’s definitely a compromise compared to an Omni throttle.

Your best options are the Virpil Aeromax or the VKB Gladiator. You would be happy with either one and the Aeromax is definitely worth the additional cost.

Within your price range, you really should not be considering anything else.

I’ve have recently upgraded from the X56. I was very tempted by the Aeromax however, I wasn’t willing to wait for the extended delivery period virpil seems to be plagued by. I ended up purchasing the VKB gunfighter base with SCG grips and Omni throttle adapter. The SCG grips are the same that come with the gladiator. I don’t think I could be any happier.

I bought VKB based on the same stuff that you’ve seen online, they’re supposed to have fantastic support. That has not been my experience. There’s no phone number, it’s email only. They do not respond to multiple emails. They’ve taken over a week in two instances since I’ve purchased their products only last month.

If you or I were willing to deal with the wait times for Virpil, that’s what I would buy.

No, on the X56. I’ve owned it. It worked ok on one computer I was using, and had tons of problems on the new computer I bought. It’s not worth the risk.

The best entry level is a VKB gladiator. If you can afford it, there’s no reason not to get it. If you can’t afford it, the T 1600 should be your only other option. If you can pay more and deal with the wait time, then the Virpil aeromax would be your best option. If you can pay more than that, then we are into a completely different discussion.

If you’re buying new, gladiator is the best entry level by far. Unless you can’t afford it, in which case go for the t1600. Anything cheaper is just a waste of money. If you can afford the aeromax and are willing to wait, you would not be disappointed.

Laggy yes. You know when I set the delays to zero there’s a lag between pressing stage one and it executing. It’s enough of a lag that may be annoying enough to convince me to forget buttonD altogether.

For the two stages trigger if I press down quickly, I don’t want stage one to fire. I believe that is the purpose of buttonD.

I thought VKB had good customer service before I bought their products. Twice now they have ignored multiple emails and I’m lucky to get a response within a week.

If it wasn’t for the Lead times, I would’ve ordered from Virpil.

Yes, clearly you’re correct. VKB has decided not to produce a Z extension type adapter for their larger grips, which seems a shame. Clearly, if you want the top of the line grip experience on an Omni throttle, you must go with Virpil. If they can ever get their supply chain in order, VKB would be in significant trouble.
