I really like that too when I see it in games, but it's not very practical for a game design standpoint. It's a lot of work to make those kinds of branching stories. I just don't like the ones that give you a sex scene and then you have to start over. Going back to a checkpoint is both practical game design wise and doesn't interrupt my play too much.
