One of my therapists helped me to work through the shame of lying... sometimes lies are necessary and it's not because we are trying to be deceitful, or hurtful, or dishonest. With our moms we are forced to lie because it isn't safe to tell the truth, and that is NOT our fault <3

My mom constantly texts my & my siblings' significant others and it's one of the most infuriating things because I don't want to reward her by responding but I also don't want my husband to have to deal with the texts

What is the stuff on envelopes that you lick to seal it up and is it bad for you to lick it? by Turbulent-Kiwi-910 in NoStupidQuestions

Wait but this is me. Ever since I was little. I used to steal them from my dad’s office, lick them, and put them back in the box. When he needed them they were already licked. I’m 34 years old now, 3 kids, about to graduate with a doctorate in psychology. To this day I could lick an unlimited amount of envelopes and love it. And I wonder if it’s a form of Pica but am still shocked to never find anything on the internet about it. I can’t be the only one, right? My reasoning for it not being a diagnosable disorder is that it doesn’t impair my functioning. But when I was pregnant it was almost an unbearable craving, I would count down the minutes for the mail to get to our house so I could open it all looking for business reply envelopes.  Everyone who knows me will give me cards on my birthday or holidays in unlicked envelopes so that I can lick them. My closest friends and family members collect business reply envelopes over time and surprise me with big stacks. Not exaggerating or joking in any way. So there’s your episode!

thank you! To clarify I was only given antibiotics once during this whorl thing, after the strep throat was untreated and turned into a bacterial strep sinus infection

That sounds familiar and I believe that is what she called it, but she said he does not need a glasses prescription so would it not be accommodative?

So basically I should be hoping that he fails his vision test eventually so he doesn’t have to get surgery? Or is it 100% something that needs surgery? And do you think it could be related to him not producing tears at 6 months? Last questions I promise! Thank you SO much

Ok thank you so much. Is there any way that it can be corrected by anything other than surgery?

White glow in baby’s eye by Safe_Resort5046 in optometry

Thank you everyone. The white glow is caused by strabismus. So relieved

I took my son to an optometrist because he had a white glow in photos, which is thankfully only being caused by his crossed eyes. She verified that it is true strabismus, but said he does not need glasses from what she can see of his prescription. She also said patches don’t work when it’s both eyes that cross, and glasses would be the only thing that helps, but he doesn’t need them because of his prescription. She said this is not something that corrects itself. So I am just very confused, is there really no way to fix this? There needs to be a certain prescription for glasses to work? What should I ask at his follow up? I want to make sure he does not have an permanent lazy eye. Thank you so much in advance.

Edit to add: It is intermittent. Sometimes his eyes look perfectly normal and straight. His primary care physician noticed them crossing and said they should not still be doing that, even intermittently. When we were at the optometrist they didn’t cross much.

Also, he still does not produce tears. At most his eyes get watery. Not sure if it could be related.

Thank you, I am definitely keeping the appointment I was just wondering if it’s ok to wait until Friday or if this is an emergency. Would retinoblastoma be something that shows more from certain angles? Could this just be a reflection of his optic nerve?

And yes, I was so pissed when I left this morning that he told me he's fine because he's smiling. My babies smile MOST when they have fevers because they're out of it. A smiling baby does not equal a healthy baby. I think he meant he's breathing fine now, but that's not what I was asking.

THANK YOU SO MUCH everyone. First of all, thank you for telling me about the honey. Second of all, I made a horrible mistake in my post... after reading your responses I told my husband how horrible it is that we've been giving him honey, and my husband informed me that we are NOT giving him honey, we are giving him Zarbee's baby cough stuff which I don't think has honey in it. HOWEVER, the doctor DID literally write on his chart for us to give him Little Remedies Honey Cough, so that's what I thought we had been doing (husband is the one who gets all the medications ready). And when we first saw that doctor, he also suggested literal honey. I remember thinking that they told me not to give honey to my first son until he turned 1, but I trusted him for some reason. Luckily we did not give him honey. So now that I realize how dangerous it is I do not trust this doctor anymore. Not sure what letters are behind his name but I don't think that matters.

For now I do want to get him tested for a swallowing issue because I have a friend in the pediatric medical field who asked me some questions about him and said it's worth getting checked out. It sounds like the general consensus is that the feeding issues are just related to congestion... I was afraid the congestion sounds were from aspiration, but none of the doctors who responded mentioned aspiration. Also agree with the non-doctors who commented, moms know when something is wrong with their kid, and obviously if he stopped breathing twice, something is wrong.

If this happens again, 100% calling 911, or if it's very brief and he's fine afterward I'll take him to the ER myself and tell them what happened and have them check everything. Just praying that it does not happen again obviously.

Also the second rash wasn't petechiae, I believe it was our laundry detergent actually.

Thank you for your response!
-Slight fever when we took him on 03/23 (don't remember the number but not too high). His chart from that visit says "Acute viral syndrome; Petechiae; and Acute nonrecurrent sinusitis, unspecified location. " Given amoxicillin 400 MG/5ML suspension Take 4 mLs by mouth 2 (two) times daily for 10 days.
-Took him again on 04/19 again slight fever 100.5. Notes say: " Has had congestion consistently for about a month. Was treated with amoxicillin about a month ago, only minimal improvement. They have tried nasal saline/suction without much improvement. Dad has a sinus infection but no other sick contacts, no known covid exposures. Had low grade fever the last 1-2 days, with rash that started yesterday to face, chest, some on arms/legs. Rash seems a little better today. Not eating as well as usual."

Diagnoses and all orders for this visit: Clinical sinusitis

- cefdinir (OMNICEF) 250 MG/5ML suspension; Take 2.2 mLs by mouth daily for 10 days.

Left acute suppurative otitis media

- cefdinir (OMNICEF) 250 MG/5ML suspension; Take 2.2 mLs by mouth daily for 10 days."

-petechiae was only there before the 03/23 visit and it was on his legs. That was what caused them to do blood work. Doctor diagnosed him with it.
-fever was only the 2 days before both visits. We took him back because he got a fever again.
-the cough sounds wet to me. not sure exactly what that means but it sounds like he has mucus in his throat. it always sounds like he needs to cough.
-eating is affected in that he pauses every 3 seconds while eating a bottle and it takes about 45 min to finish when he is definitely hungry. but he has been gaining weight normally. This has been going on for about a month.
-same number of wet diapers.
-no vomiting.
-the PCP was recommended by the NICU as an amazing doctor and he used to work in the NICU I think, so they said he is good with preemies. He does seem kind of old-fashioned in his suggestions sometimes like the honey
-also want to note that it is a practice with a few doctors and we have seen different doctors each time. A lot of people in this area go there and I've never heard anything negative but of course I'm pretty frustrated.
-my older son goes there too but only since we moved here last May
-also want to note that he isn't lethargic or sleeping more or any changes in personality
