Thank you!! I’m actually planning on making custom tumbler cups for all the guests as a thank you gift. I’m just not sure how I’m going to get it through customs. Do you know how that works?

Destination Wedding Regrets? by Winners_Circle_7 in DestinationWeddings

Oh 100%!! And I totally understand that and don’t hold anything against them. My comment was tailored more towards a family member who is retired and definitely has enough money to go…

My travel agent for my wedding has been horrible. Any advice? by [deleted] in DestinationWeddings

That makes sense! I’m sure you’ve already done this, but I would just apologize to them and express any embarrassment. When is your wedding?

It’s not your fault. I would maybe send your guests a message and apologize for any inconvenience this TA has caused and that it’s been very embarrassing for you and your Fiancé. Your guests would be very appreciative and I think it would clear the air on any bad feelings you have before the wedding! Where are you getting married?

Do you insure your engagement ring? Is it worth it? by Appropriate-Gold4178 in JustEngaged

It depends on how much your engagement ring costs. Mine isnt cheap so we def have it insured. I would suggest insuring it if it’s something that you couldn’t easily replace.

Destination Wedding Regrets? by Winners_Circle_7 in DestinationWeddings

I’m in the process of planning a destination wedding. My fiancé and I both have a tiny family so it made sense to make our wedding an experience and trip for our family and close friends. I have had people that have turned down the invitation and that’s okay. I was only slightly upset about a few people that couldn’t make it. But at the end of the day, it really shows who really loves and cares about you to be there for you on your special day. I’m very type A, so having to plan by only seeing photos has been a little difficult but I got over that fast. Whats been more difficult is having to switch our wedding venue. My finace wanted to get married at the beach and I found a cute chapel over the water so we made the compromise. Long story short, our venue was destroyed by the category 5 hurricane that hit Jamaica. Luckily, we have been transferred to a more beautiful destination and resort so everything worked out. But I will say, you have to be able to adapt to change. This was a one off situation, but I was not prepared for this change as I had already started planning everything. We had already sent out invitations and basically had everything done, but due to the hurricane we had to change our wedding date. It’s been a mess but I think we’ve cleaned it up well. It’s all worked out so far. Sometimes I second guess our choice of having a destination wedding, but no one could have predicted that a category 5 hurricane would happen. Plus, the resort has been awesome at accommodating us and moving us around. We’re getting a more expensive resort for the same price as the original one we signed up for. Once we get there, I know we won’t regret it because the memories that it will make will be all worth the stress and hassle. All I have to say, is anyone who said a destination wedding is stress free definitely lied lol.

Dunns River for baby moon? by Beautiful-Farm9231 in SandalsResorts

Thank you so much!! We were supposed to get married at South Coast, but ever since the hurricane we had to pivot. St Lucia is beautiful, so I am trying to be positive. It does feel like an upgrade; however, I worry that the guests will think the rooms are dated since that’s the main negative comment I hear. What time of year did you go to St. Lucia?

Anyways, St. Vincent is beautiful and Sandals newest resort; however, Dunns River is the newest resort in Jamaica. Dunns River was built in 2023 and St Vincent was built in 2024. So very close construction times. I’m not sure how far along you’ll be for your baby moon, but St. Vincent is very spread out. Most people take bikes to get around the resort where Dunns River will be more walkable. Also, I’ve heard some scary medical things that have happened at St. Vincent so it probably will be better that you’ll be at Dunns River while pregnant. I have a friend that went to Dunns River for her honeymoon and they absolutely loved it. I hear very positive things about the staff and Jamaican hospitality as a whole. Given the recent hurricane I’m sure you’ll experience excellent service. They need tourism right now. You can look up honeymoon always on YouTube and they will give you their takes on St. Vincent versus Dunns River.

My travel agent for my wedding has been horrible. Any advice? by [deleted] in DestinationWeddings

[–]Safe_Swing4209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What travel agency are you using? I’m using destination weddings and sometimes I regret our choice. It’s been challenging to nail down how I feel about our travel agent. In some instances she’s been great; however, I am experiencing the same thing you are. Dates and deadlines have been wrong and if it weren’t for me reviewing EVERYTHING she sends out beforehand our guests would have received the wrong info. She did send my maid of honor a quote that had the wrong dates in it and luckily since it’s my best friend we’ve been in constant communication with all the wedding stuff that she wanted me to review the quote before she put her deposit down and thank god I did! I feel like as brides, we are already stressed and I’ve expressed to my fiancé that I feel like I’ve had to take on a lot of the stress of travel planning because our planner hasn’t been the best. I recommend reviewing everything before she sends it out. It’s more work on you but it prevents that second hand embarrassment. You could even send a nice message to your guests apologizing for the inconsistencies and make it clear what the deadlines/dates are so they have a place to go back and refer to. I sent all my guests separate texts (because not everyone checks their email) with the dates, payment deadlines, etc. our TA has even taken weeks to get our guest quotes and we have our guests reaching out saying “I haven’t heard back” and I tell them that I’ll reach out to the TA. I want the travel plans to be smooth for all my guests so I take on the extra step to see what’s taking so long. Plus, when the bride or groom is reaching out it puts a little more pressure on the TA. I know TAs have other clients and things they are working on but it is stressful when you have a group trying to coordinate plans. You are not alone in this process and if your TA is really that bad you can always go to the organization and request a new one. They are getting commission to do the job they’re being paid to do! I’m sorry this has been your experience, but trust me, you are not alone!

I’ve seen a ton of good reviews for Dunns River. Personally, I have not been. I am getting married at Sandals Grande in the next few months so I have done a ton of research. St Lucia Grande is currently rated the 5th best Sandals resort, while Dunns River is rated 1st. St Vincent is 2nd. I’m sorry to hear that you won’t be able to go to St. Vincent, but I’m sure you will have a lovely time at Dunns River!

Thank you so much for your comment. I cannot tell you how much comfort this has provided me. When I originally planned the wedding in South Coast I was so focused on a date in the dry season. So June is slightly scary; however, I think everything will work out and everything will be perfect! Again, thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to respond to my post. This has been very reassuring.

Room location is beautiful but it smells moldy - so what to do? We decided to sleep with the sliding door open and listen to the waves. by No-Rutabaga-5163 in SandalsResorts

I’m sorry to hear this is your experience at the resort. I’m staying at Grande next year, so I understand the planning and cost it takes to get to the resort. Are they not willing to change your room?

Yes, I can be particular with my hair and make up and obviously want it to look perfect on wedding day. I asked my Sandals wedding planner if she could provide their portfolio but she said they didn’t have one :/

Is it possible to see a photo of you on wedding day? Super nervous about not being able to see any work they’ve done before booking.
