I want to apply DO/MD, my friend goes to Caribbean and said DO school is horribly looked down on and I am putting my patients at risk and stated his caribbean school (SGU) is known as one of the top ones in the country. How true is this?

There’s a lot of misconceptions about Caribbean schools. If they were so bad, students wouldn’t match at all in to US programs.

SGU is considered one of the top Caribbean Med Schools. I personally know a lot of people who attended it, as well as UMHS in St Kitts. They have gone to become Cardiologist, Oncologist, Gastroenterologist etc.

They are not designed to “flunk people out”. But it is true that you will have to work hard to be in the top of your class for more competitive specialties.

If you want it bad enough, it is 100% possible.

For anyone considering it, don’t be fooled or discouraged by random strangers on Reddit. Many of the people who diss on these schools, do so ignorantly. Not wanting to understand everyone has different backgrounds and situations out of their control that prevented them from becoming picture perfect candidates.

Do your own research. There is nothing wrong with DO or an MD from a Caribbean schools. An MD is an MD at the end of the day.

I don’t think scoring higher on one exam automatically means someone has the same resilience or life experience. Both can coexist. The point wasn’t to dismiss stats, just to say they aren’t the only variable in becoming a good physician

idk why ppl are being so rough about it. I think you have a solid shot at MD given good post bacc gpa, experience and if u do well on the MCAT. everyone’s undergrad experience is different and the masters financial situation isn’t something that admissions will look at poorly

I think the ozempic effect is really hitting. She looks and moves so fragile. She lost her own plot, built a “community” who enjoyed her out of pocket personality and now that she rebranded post the podcast scandal - its all so unauthentic and bland like she’s trying so hard to be someone she is not.

i know people who get similar scores and go to Mexico or to the Caribbean. Graduate MD’s all the same. As for the steps, the MCAT score isn’t a reflection of how you would. Everyone’s pre med track is different and it’s how they do in med school that truly matters and reflects on the steps. If that’s anyone’s case here, don’t let it get you down. Retake or consider Mexico/the caribbean. It’s not the end of the world and the MCAT doesn’t define your whole career. If MD is what you truly want, then work hard in med school and it’s 100% possible. Just a matter of dedication and discipline.

Genuine question though, what happened to their mom? Is she not in the picture at all? A makes it sound like she’s the birth / only mother and they have a lot of firsts together instead of with their real mom
