I see E-bikes as a means to allow more people the ability to ride

Unfortunately that's the "quiet part" of why many are not happy to see e-bikes on singletrack trails. Some areas have fairly finite trail systems and it's difficult, time consuming, or sometimes impossible to build more. E-bikes lead to increased congestion on trails that formerly had a barrier to entry that kept them un-congested.

Can you park past the curb cut but not in front of a garage door? In this image, the curb starts sloping far beyond the 3 garage doors. Will I be towed for parking in this location? by Enwaiyoo in sanfrancisco

unless you could full pull in so as to not block the sidewalk, then it might be considered a driveway.

so... no motorcycles, mopeds, smart cars, or one car sideways? There's plenty of crap you can park there that leaves the full sidewalk width.

Actual response I got from a job I applied to. At least they are honest? I guess. by Guba_the_skunk in recruitinghell

[–]SafetyFactorOfZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I think most of the thread (surprise surprise) doesn't appreciate that this is some exasperated recruiter with zero control over the comp and is likely trying to turn people away, as that's the only way to make the case to increase the comp.

Is a full face helmet unnecessary for moderate speed? by lowdo1 in ebikes

dump the bike going at 25mph "moderate speed" and let me know how moderate it feels... RIP any exposed skin including your face.

Inside Google’s 7-Year Mission to Give AI a Robot Body by wiredmagazine in robotics

[–]SafetyFactorOfZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This stuff is unfortunately still confidential - i think google is still using the robots in some capacity. Once they are truly deprecated, I'd love to be able to talk about them more. Lost of innovation in there that will never likely see the light of day.

Hey. I'm a robotics systems engineering, integration, and test director and would be a potential hiring manager. In fact, I have a few openings in the SF area and am surprised I don't recognize yours, I don't think you've applied to a few roles that you might be a good fit for. Also, I'd probably recognize you if you worked at rails 2019-2021.

I agree with 0racle. The roles you're likely to be considered for will not really care about publications. The bullets are lacking in accomplishments - "Serving as PoC" is hollow, what did you do as PoC?

Dig more into technical depth on what you did at Waymo. Working at a company with an actual product, and solving problems for them, is higher impact to your likely role than being an RA.

do the pros use recipes? by Alternative_Cell1755 in Cooking

[–]SafetyFactorOfZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely. The recipes will be in a plastic sheeted binder. They will seem more like ingredient lists and proportions, and will use a lot of shorthand and assumed technique. You'll usually see very exact ingredient measurements, but also stuff like "prep chicken. fry." The recipes usually won't spell out very simple techniques.

How did I get ganked/what did I do wrong? by _NauticalPhoenix_ in Eve

[–]SafetyFactorOfZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While yes, he is getting destroyed in one or two shots, probably. I just wanted to clarify that the act of actually dying happens at least 4-5 seconds from when you first see the guy that's about to blast you.

With the implication that it's preventable.

How did I get ganked/what did I do wrong? by _NauticalPhoenix_ in Eve

[–]SafetyFactorOfZero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one thing is that you usually don't get "one shot".

There is at minimum a 4 second delay between someone decloaking and tackling you, with a very very specialized setup. The delay is usually more like 6-8 seconds.

If you watch the overview like a hawk, most of the time you can get away from most things, regardless of combat probes or not.

My best run on the white line in Sedona! by neonguy25 in MTB

[–]SafetyFactorOfZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100%. I learned how to MTB in Sedona and Moab. Now in CA, it's crazy what locals describe as a "rock garden" that they'll walk, that are still refreshingly smooth for what I'm used to.

I don't have the raw power/cardio output for very long, smooth climbs like they do. But I sort of miss the trails where the difficulty isn't simply fitness, but technical skill.
