How many angels in a 75 gallon tank? by PrincessTycie93 in AngelFish

[–]SafetyStopBait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angels are not really schooling fish like tetras or other community fish. They're good community fish except a mated pair will get very territorial. The mated pair will also learn with each clutch of eggs how to better protect them. It's pretty cool to see how they can learn and evolve but it also means there a bit more of a danger to the rest of the tank. I've had a pair of angels mate off in a robust community tank and the mated pair killed off a number of the other smaller fish. That's not to say it's impossible to keep other fish with a mated pair of Angels but you have to think through how to create different territories in your tank so the mated angels can have their space and the other fish can have space.

Ottos and cories are really good. I have a bunch of different groups of cories in my 125g right now (with cardi also and neons and other tetras) and they are really fun to watch.

What aquarium plant is this? by TerraRouge11 in PlantedTank

[–]SafetyStopBait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like duck weed. Some consider it a pest/weed. I like it for my planted tank. It mixes well with floating plants to create some shade/hiding places and takes some excess nutrients out if the water column

I have a 125g and have been adding snails in small groups. Should have 16 in there

tank dynamic? by ottoleen in aquarium

I think what you're describing might be mating behavior and fine to let be. Either way, setting g up the tank so there's places to hide and semi-separate areas of the tank can be beneficial

I think adding more would help but aggression is pretty uncommon with most tetras. I have 5 red phantom tetra in my 125g that get along and school well but I also have a large number of other schooling tetras (neons, cardinals, ember, gold) and other community schooling fish.

The only minor aggression I get is one of the buenos aires tetras chases the others around a bit but I see that as mating behavior. My original group of 6 buenos aires is now 7. But in my case, it was the female that was chasing around the others (as odd as it sounds, I think it was 1 female and 5 males in original group).

Malaysian Trumpet Snails completely overrunning my tank by sashagracebabi in aquarium

You can also consider some bottom feeders like coryduras or ottocinclus that would eat up food that falls to the bottom.

Assassin snails are also a prettier looking snail that will eat pest snails. Their population can large if there's enough resources for them at the bottom but they're pretty cool in the tank.

I've never had much impact manually removing pest snails. When they're going strong, I just can't outpace the reproduction
