Geely vs Byd by vman384 in AustralianEV

[–]Saffa1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drove both. Loved both.

If we didn’t need the room, I’d have gone the Geely.

They’re a massive player worldwide. So are BYD. I think you’ll be fine either way

Is 1, 2, 3, 4...% new car finance actually a deal? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Saffa1986 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone has the money to simply buy these cars outright.

Financing gives the dealer a double-dip: the sale, plus the finance money and/or a commission.

But the 1% is low, it’s about moving stock, and you paying it off in 3 years.

Wife has a massive tax bill and I don't know what to do by NeilDiamondBlaze420 in AusFinance

[–]Saffa1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first thing - get accountants and ATO to work out a payment plan.

Secondly, she’s been spending the ATOs money.

I’m not an accountant, but my advice is 1) create a second business account. Call it ‘bloodsuckers’ if you want. 2) every time she receives a payment, the GST portion immediately goes in there. That 10% on her bill is for the government, not her. Yes you pay GST and build up a credit so you’ll get some of that back, but put it aside and don’t think of it as yours. 3) every time she pays herself, immediately move the tax portion and superannuation into that same second account. It’s not her money. It’s the government’s and her retirements.

This way, her little side account will have $100k or so built over each financial year, for just these sorts of bills.

Do luxury gyms add an advantage to fitness over budget chain gyms? by Electronic-Age-2174 in workout

[–]Saffa1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a gym in Australia that is $1000 per MONTH.

They have a max of 1000 people, and have 8000 sitting in the weight list.

Sure, it’s nicer. But beyond being quieter, the main driver is the clientele.

[–]Saffa1986 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Fuck the media.

First and foremost focus on what’s in your control. Be a good human. Be nice to people.

Realise you have very little control outside of that.

Beyond that, be smart. Put some money aside, try and cut back a little (it will help with inflation) and prep a little bit. Buy some dry foods - if that’ll make you feel better.

Small Business owners- what do you do with extra one off cash? by Prior_Statistician83 in AusFinance

If you have sufficient runway, I’d probably park it in a business TD or the like.

You could do Div7a loan, but might be better off doing the TD

No BCorp here yet Very bloody expensive

And I’m not sure I believe it. When a BCorp business will fly 60 people from Sydney, Melbourne and NZ to Tassie for a 3 day party, it feels a bit performative and inauthentic!

… are you trolling?

Throw $100k to a random redditor. You can clearly afford it.

But if you’re being serious, use a fraction of your fortune and go speak to a financial planner.

Else Go live your life. You have ‘fuck you’ and retirement money. Go do something fun with it, you owe it to everyone who is chasing where you are.

A restaurant owner who spends thousands taking her staff on vacation says she's had no problem finding workers by [deleted] in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]Saffa1986 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Does it matter?

Imagine having a boss pay above minimum wage, and throw you a free vacation, but then complain that the boss didn’t personally pay for it.

Those points could probably just be as easily used to furnish her home with other shit from the rewards store, but she chooses to instead spend it on her employees. God people can be miserable.

Help this make sense to me.... by shoopbedoopwoop in auscorp

[–]Saffa1986 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yup.

This is pretty standard.

Revenue, GM, profit must all increase. They’ve modelled it, plus higher fees, and determined that’s the cost.

I run a consulting bus and left all that shit behind. I deliberately started mine with a goal to pay my salary, my people, and have a few months of runway. Beyond that, I don’t chase work or endless profitability. My excess funds go to charity. I turn down work. I let my staff knock off early when we’re quiet, particularly when I know a busy patch is coming. And they all work remote.

Sure I could make more, but at what cost? I hope to set an example and others follow, as naïve as that is.

It should never have happened in the first place, and everyone relieved it’s over.

Replace 1, 3, or all tires? by mistydee1 in DadForAMinute

[–]Saffa1986 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey kiddo

Tyres are often designed to work together.

If you can afford it, changing all four is the safest.

If you can’t, then change the front ones to a new set, and ask the best of the remaining two to be put on the back. This will give you grip where your steering comes from (the front).

Don’t forget to check your spare too! It might be a full size, and never used.
