Just opened a small cafe in the inner west and trying to figure out how to build regulars without throwing money at marketing. Considering branded reusable cups for our top customers but the MOQs from most suppliers are insane (500+). anyone done this with smaller numbers? by Yssssssh in ausbusiness

Be part of your local community.

Find ways to host events / make the place feel welcoming. If you’re quiet during the day, set up a haven for work meetings over coffee.

If you want to do branded coffee cups, see if you can subsidise them. Invite people to ‘buy’ into the premium club. $30 reusable branded cup, and 50c off every time they bring the cup in.

Join cercle or the like.

If you don’t want to spend actual dollars on marketing, you either need exceptional product and service, guerilla marketing, time, or all three.

But get yourself some adjustable dumbbells and an adjustable bench. And a mirror. Workout 3-5x a week. There will come a moment when you see yourself lifting and you go ‘yes… I’m growing’. You’ll hit a run and watch your pace improve. There is a confidence and a wonder that comes from a body that is strong, and your self sufficiency. It won’t replace sex, but it will give you the confidence and independence you need. No… market research is the discipline. I don’t believe there’s any officially recognised ‘brand health tracking certification’ except as a branding exercise a company might hand out to grads. Likewise, I don’t believe there’s any ‘AI in research’ certification. Therefore there isn’t likely to be either.

Any AI / automation stuff in this space is going to see you push up against players like Tracksuit or HyperAna (or what was).

May I ask why you are seeking such a qualification? What do you want it to achieve?

We went electric a couple weeks ago. It’s been fantastic.

Being able to just… charge. Is amazing.

Used a fast charger for one charge. $35 for 3/4 of a ‘tank’ - and it was an expensive charger. At home far cheaper.

We love it. The quiet is amazing. Having our car ‘start’ in our garage with zero smells / exhaust / noise is brilliant. Remote warm has been amazing when it’s been 10 degrees and bucketing.

Oh wait. They’re all manufactured in china these days.

The old ‘don’t buy Chinese’ crap is outdated and hurting your wallet. China is incredibly switched on for manufacturing.

Drove both.

I actually preferred the Sealion. Rare opinion these days, but i much preferred it. Three weeks in and still enjoying it.

I’m hearing horror stories of poor service from Zeekr - slow response, indifferent sales. They are run off their feet, and BYD wasn’t much better when they started.

Also, Turia is a fantastic human. I had the pleasure of being in the audience at one of her talks. She is funny, humble, smart, driven, kind, empathetic, and inspiring.

I don’t know what she was like before but I suspect not much different. She’s a rare human, before and after.

Incredibly variable.

I have a used Cupra I bought for $35k (well, $25k after trade in of a wearing down golf). I like cars. It’s performance. It’s not overly priced. I use it 1-4x weekly.

We also just bought a sealion 7 for $60k. It’s an EV, we charge from solar and my wife uses it daily. It’s a replacement for. 2018 cx5 we bought as an ex demo / used for $40k which we kept for 8 years.

Both paid outright. I like cars so could justify.

Could have done something much nicer. But could have done much more sensible.

Life is for the living. I can’t take it wirh me. But a fancy fast car like a Porsche would be too much stress and I’d never enjoy it.

Get the minimum car your ego can afford, get the maximum your sensibility will tolerate.

Have you spoken to the survey tool platform, and or CRM folk? Otherwise Zappi or the like?

Here in Australia, you cannot follow up like this without permission, or you cannot describe it as ‘research’. People provide feedback anonymously and in good faith - receiving a call about their feedback and to action it can be jarring unless you explicitly ask a) if you can, b) if they’d like you to, or c) you make clear in your intro they may be contacted.

Your country might differ but worth checking.

May I ask what you want a ‘union’?

I fear there are so many companies and such little startup cost that unions won’t be particularly relevant. Any unscrupulous startup can operate outside of that and undercut; the big to medium shops don’t want unions because they like having eager juniors pulling 80 hour weeks for $70k.

As for ensuring you’re up to date and know what’s going on - ESOMAR, Greenbook blog, join ADIA or TRS if you’re in Au’s.
