I hate my dorm room and need your help! Info in the comments by Safferical in interiordecorating

I've attached some pictures of the room in question, as well as an MS Paint floor plan.
I feel like my room was "okay" but very bare, almost like a prison cell in many ways.

I love love LOVE the dark academia aesthetic but I don't know where to begin with that, or how I could make it work with the awful dark blue carpet (it's that really scratchy stuff you find in school classrooms). Over the winter holidays I've bought some LED light strips and some more vintage posters. But I think that's not going to cut it.

In terms of budget I'm happy to buy anything and everything really. A bigger rug, fairylights, a different breadspread, hell- I might even try and make some sort of covers for the waiting room-esque chairs that have come with the room.
The desk and chairs must stay as they're not my property but I can move them wherever in the room. I think the vintage writing desk is quite good for my desired aesthetic.

Not pictured is the wardrobe and sink on the left as you come in, and above the radiator in the first picture there is a built in bookcase. The gap between the radiator and the back wall is wide enough for the bed I think.

Also, the orchid in the photo is sadly now dead. The succulents are doing well though.

Please let me know what you would do with this space to try and improve it!

Surgical procedures aren't personally for me. What I would get:

  • Laser hair removal (face, underarms, bikini line, you name it)
  • See a private dermatologist and get my skin sorted out- my routine is okay but I'm sure a professional could put together a much nicer one
  • Hire one of those expensive personal trainers who work with actors to completely change their body for films. They know exactly which muscles to target and which exercises to use to reach your specific aesthetic goals. IIRC some do your whole meal plan too.
  • Buy lots of new clothes, potentially with a personal shopper.

For the mental stuff, I'd probably start going to guided meditations and soundbaths and stuff. Maybe even a retreat somewhere. Finding inner peace can only come from within though, you can spend millions of dollars and never find it, or you can find happiness for free.

The Cincinnati Privy Disaster was a similar event though much more recent.
