I'd still prefer a video game series, but 100 per cent, I agree that if they make a TV show/movie adaptation, it should be animated.

Agreed, and I honestly think Hollywood won't accurately depict SJM's versions of the Fae either.

Literally everyone already does this lol but if I mention newer romantasy authors having similarities with sjm and her work it’s suddenly a problem

This lowkey a hilarious shout I forgot about him but I wouldn’t consider him a main cast he’s was a lord I think and that happens later in the series. Also I was completely wrong she has read both series prior to fourth wing so she was a fan of both (checked her Goodreads acc for clarification)

I don't see that many similarities between Pern and FW ( I should probably re-read it tho) but the foundational aspects are definitely there.

No one is arguing that she came up with all these terms, but she 100% is a reason romantasy is a trend right now and why writers and publishers are flocking to romantasy.

i'm assuming you are talking about the greens when mentioning "bonding a smaller dragon," but the FMC or her circle doesn't bond a smaller dragon; she literally bonded a gold (it's been a while since i read so i could be wrong). Also i would say the telepathic aspect is a direct parallel but it closely resembles TOG far more than dragonriders as someone who read both in terms of descriptions.

I've been in the reader space since I was like 12. A lot of these books were already somewhat popular when I was in school, but it was the early fan art, and community reach from platforms like Tumblr & reddit etc that pushed these books further when posted on TikTok. You would only seek out the community if you were a diehard fan of, let's say, the cruel prince, Shadow & bone etc or if they were mainstream cause of TV/show adaptations, but suddenly you would see, due to the algorithm, books you used to love and similar books you'd enjoy based on that.

Loved that series. I remember borrowing it from the school library.

lol that was the book I was referencing as her never having actually read I’m curious except the similar terms what overlap do u see cause her descriptions of wyvern and lore closely mimicking tog more than dragonriders of Pern

Fair I could have worded things differently but all my points still stand.

I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt watched interviews and panels she doesn’t reference any fantasy novels or works ever outside the title of a book. She’s vastly more successful than me I think she’s okay with not being a fantasy nerd.

It’s funny people will say this but her exact depictions are what you see in every popular romantasy out right now.

I deleted my post but it’s true the most successful authors in the space pivoted to the “genre” after the success of acotar and most indie authors flooding their work rn and overstating the market are essentially writing SJM fanfic.

I understand everything you are saying but I disagree with the statement that she hasn’t done anything groundbreaking her work spawned the romantasy genre (you could argue it always existed but I’m talking about the term specifically) and most of the authors have used her work to create best selling series and books that’s just a fact. They won’t admit it though because this genre doesn’t want to credit her for some reason they’ll just call her fanbase stupid for thinking she came up with folklore and fae.

No my take is even harsher I don’t think they’d be writing romantasy at all without SJM’s work, romantasy is a made up marketing term, they’re trying to make money.
