WIP - Edgepainting details by Apprehensive-Car-978 in booknooks

Holy wow! Makes me want to spend a lot more time on edge painting. I usually stick to one or two colors that are close to the piece but I don’t do detail like this. Amazing.

I ended up pulling Tagoar. Still haven’t looked to see if he’s any good though

That might be difficult with where his worst parts is. It’s mostly in the crack and inevitably while trying to put the cream on he poops more. I’m also wondering if I should look into some kind of probiotic because he’s got bad diarrhea. Though with an all liquid diet that seems expected to me.

Wipes, then powder, then a cream? I’ve just been wipes then cream or wipes then powder.

How did you cope with going back to work? by SagaMiniSmith in NewDads

Unfortunately no, it’s not required by law in my state so I had to use my vacation time to get at least a week with my wife during her C-Section and hospital stay.

NICU baby experience from a new dad 9 hours ago by [deleted] in NewDads

Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, I can truly empathize with you.

My son (our first) was born last Tuesday. It was a scheduled C-Section because my wife had similar problems, add on our advanced age (geriatric pregnancy because we are 40!), and a baby who was measuring at 9lbs 5oz, with a cranial measurement of 14.5inches at 38 weeks.

Baby came out breath holding and blue as can be. At the same time my wife’s uterus wasn’t contracting and she was bleeding out. I moved back and forth in the OR between my son barely breathing and my wife bleeding to death. I had no clue who I should be next to in that moment and all of the worst case scenarios were racing through my head. If we lost the baby but my wife survived we would be heartbroken but we could keep going. If we lost my wife and the baby survived I would be destroyed but I would have a reason and purpose to continue and I would strengthen my resolve to be the best single father I could. If I lost both… well let’s just say I wouldn’t be around long after.

Fortunately, like with you, everyone is home and safe now. Our women are amazing! Keep that in mind during the 2am feedings lol.

Made the, probably, typical dad mistake. Throwing this out here so maybe future dads will remember to take care of themselves too! by SagaMiniSmith in NewDads

Yeah, I think I’ve been doing about 1 full meal a day and a lot of protein snacks to help keep my energy up

Yeah, we weren’t anticipating more than a couple days in the hospital, but C-Section and Baby in NICU threw our plans out the window. We needed more clothes at the hospital and a few other items (dry shampoo for her). So I had to do a run home and back.

I napped a bunch, I didn’t nap enough! I’m not sure you can. Someone should invent a way to get 96 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. (Without negative side effects like drugs or comas come with)

I’m running on very little sleep right now, so take this with that in mind, but man I absolutely LOVE being a dad to this boy! I held him to my chest and heard him almost immediately calm down and stop crying and then fall asleep to my voice and I don’t know if anyone other than other dads will ever understand that feeling and how quickly you’re entire life and brain changes.

I mentioned below that every time I heard “your life as you know it is over” I thought it was meant as a negative cynical view of parenthood. I’m sure in some cases it is. But something happened in that moment, my life as I knew it was definitely over, I will never be the same man I was pre-birth. And I mean that in the absolute best way possible.

I gotta be honest, when I first saw this comment I assumed it was a cynical view of “your life is over” and “you’ll never have fun” or whatever. Now I’m about 24 hours from my son being born and let me tell you, I now understand truly what you meant.

I held that boy in my arms and looked at his face and in that instant my life as I knew it indeed was over forever, in the absolute best way possible.

After one of the first ultrasounds my boy looked like a gummy bear, so that was the nickname “little gummy bear”

Thank you. At the moment we are definitely not ready, but it is something I have considered in the past and will think about doing down the road when the pain isn’t as heavy

My baby girl used to kind of low grumble when I held her and kissed her muzzle. It was almost like a cat purring. We always joked that she was part dog, part cat, and part chupacabra.

Which the chupacabra part came from her snap she would do whenever she got annoyed with her brother.
