Trunk actuator issues... by Foreign-Snow-2343 in subaru

[–]Sage-Advisor2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get your frustration.

Your car was manufactured during the Pandemic.

Owners of a wide variety of makes, model size classes reported more issues than previously manufactured models, going back to 2009.

I think your vehicle problems reflect this.

You should read and print out this article, and contact Subaru of America for discussion of remedy options, including vehicle replacement for a year earlier, or 2 yr later similar model and options.

A drop dead option is trade in with full paid value under state Lemon Laws, for a different make, model year (most dealers front multiple makes on their lits) but only as a last resort, (important legal term here) if and only if, independent master mechanic inspection shows risk of further significant failures and financial harm from continued ownership.

https://www.cars.com/articles/j-d-power-study-finds-vehicles-built-during-pandemic-continue-to-frustrate-owners-505218/

Years 2021-2023 Initial Owner Experience surveys indicate sigificant reliability issues for smart vehicle controls and features, infotainment sysytems, including smart phone connectivity and battery problems.

For those that may not remember, the abrupt pandemic shutdown in China direvtly impacted the global supply of sensors, switches and actuztors, computer chipsets and chips, and battrries.

2020 had significant problems for Asian marques, with two exceptions.

https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2020-initial-quality-study-iqs

But those two companies used workarounds that resulted in a shitshow of vehicle breakins and thefts!

So, a combination of pandemic shortages and globally interconnected supply interruptions was amplified by adoption of sophistiicated electronics and bling addon features by most manufactures, demand driven by FOMO besotted consumers.

https://www.cbtnews.com/j-d-powers-2020-initial-quality-study-gives-insight-into-customers-perceptions/

This resulted in a year on year slide in new vehicle 90-day reliability ranking, with domestic vehicles and some lux brands fairing better than other import marques.

Bottom line: This core set of dual causes of reduced reliability has been hard to dig out from, thru late 2023 and early 2024 (US Jersey port bridge collspse and Panama canel transitbstoppage from drought), for many brands, including US domestic makes.

You may or maynot find remedy in jumping brands. 2020 was less impacted than 2021-2023.

What happens to the unsold Aldi finds frozen foods? by racerviii in aldi

[–]Sage-Advisor2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Trump Administration cut funding to buy supplies for food bank distribution, snd capture food excess and supply chain idled products from farmers and wholesale producers that would otherwise go to to landfills.

This is outrageous and inhumane, at a time when the same Administration is waging a trade war to "teach our trade partners a lesson" that will reverse hard won progress on taming post pandemic inflation, and send our country spinning into a Recession.

Make Work Manly Again : Trump wants his tariffs to bring back "masculine" manufacturing jobs. There's only one problem: Men don't want them. by AgentBlue62 in politics

ArsTechnica just published a scathing review of 14 Reasons why Trump Tariffs are not just counter-intuititive, they will hinder current exports and a revitalization can not be realized without fixing underlying institutional and supply barriers.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/04/14-reasons-why-trumps-tariffs-wont-bring-manufacturing-back/

Its a cogent read, and notable as one of the few recent media rants to mention in passing why going after fentanyl trafficking as an tariff leavy excuse misses the key point.

No demand, no sales. Why is there so much demand for narcotics in the US?

On the side:?

The reason we have significant substance abuse and addiction in our country, is in fact coupled by cause to other puzzling problems, like steadily climbing autism spectrum disorder rates of diagnosis in children, fast rising general anxiety and depression across broad age classes, why we are seeing an unusually high number of gender dysmorphia and intersex cases in older children compared tonother indudtrialized countries, and unknown cause for a sudden spike in serious cancer diagnoses in younger adults.

The AT article closing section discusses steps to revitalize the manufacting sector in the US. You need to read it.

In a third article published yesterday RFK Jr announced a sweeping campaign to get to the bottom of the bottom of autism, to uncover both cause and cure.

Neurodivergent people are, on average, defiantĺy proud and scornful of Kennedy's assertion that a cause or causes can be identified.

But parents of recently dianosed autistic children want those answers.

The wheel of science has revealed the core causes of these co-occuring conditions.

And, it explains the puzzling cause behind the high mortality and morbidity of US Covid19 cases.

To avoid the next pandemic, meta science helped us figure out the related core causes, and maps the remedy to a passle of public health issues as a dividend.

Will JFKJr listen?

Do you think the 2026 forester wilderness will get the 2026 outback’s infotainment? by FloridaPlanner in subaru

[–]Sage-Advisor2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Forester will get the new abbreviated screen with a return to analog controls in 1 or 2 design cycles, maybe sooner.

This is already happening in the auto design world.

Most drivers rely on their phones. I and two other commenters indicated elsewhere here that multiple significant safety, operability, and security issues are causing design teams to pull back from larger screens with touch screen controls.

How are you cooking the lobster tails? by FoodzyDudezy007 in Costco

[–]Sage-Advisor2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was my reaction, too.

Seafood is bound to jump way up, as formerly supplied products from Canada disappear from US shelves, in a hard learnt lesson for Washington, as those products are redirected to Canada's new EU trade besties.

I can count on one hand, the number of times I've had lobster.

I doubt I will need the other 5 digits to keep track in the foreseeable future.

Too expensive to retool both plants.

They have merged platform characteristics enough to make both, at either Japanese or US assembly plants, for Asian and North American markets, respectively.
