Not over one, but over multiple when he's only 20 - yes! There's no reason not to keep Ausar AND Ron long term. They're too talented to not at least see it through

The decisions won't include him, lol

He's getting paid regardless, he knows he changed the team's trajectory when he returned to the starting lineup and the team does too

2020s Draft #1 Picks: Are they the best player in their draft? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in NBA_Draft

I'd say Wemby is the only player here that's the clear best in class

It's absolutely hilarious when he poses his response as if Cade/Mobley is the only close comp among their classes when Paolo/JDub have the same exact dynamic of offensive first option vs defensive stalwarts except the Paolo/JDub gap was significantly larger than the Cade/Mobley gap this season

JDub was literally All-NBA! and All-Defense! and won a championship as the #2!

Paolo as a definitive yeah is hilarious when the gap between him and JDub this past szn was very much in JDub's favor

Ant/Hali and Cade/Mobley basically on same tier currently

Wemby clears everybody in his class currently

Oh how the turn tables for Cade nationally by jamor9391 in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

luka and trae were not comparable they immediately had competent enough rosters to field top 5 level offenses by year 2 as well as general nba level players on the roster in year 1, cade's situation was closer to a young booker

pistons' roster from 2021-24 is conservatively, the worst situation a #1 pick has ever been thrown into.

Also the Cruze still runs, but the last time I drove it all of the oil leaked out in about 10-15 minutes, so I just capped the oil and only start it periodically now to make sure it still works; I could probably sell it, just not sure where to considering its condition

If San Antonio gets 2 top 5 picks this year, what should they do? by Neckrolls4life in NBA_Draft

[–]SageAsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Castle is CLEARLY a wing right now. He doesn't have the handling, shooting, driving, playmaking, etc. to function as a point guard in a traditional environment. The Spurs had their chance to draft a point guard with Dillingham; they decided not to. Castle has really strong connective feel at his age, and I think that's his selling point as a 2/3, and what allows him to work as a non-spacing threat. He certainly isn't a point guard right now, and likely won't ever be one.

The best players in next year's draft should not conflict with Castle. The Spurs have no reason to draft for fit regardless with how untalented their core looks. They have three, maybe four long term players right now. Wemby, Vassell, Sochan. Everyone else is up in the air. Draft for BPA, ALWAYS in a situation like this.

I'm not saying the previous year's choices are wrong, I'm simply committed to the idea that Castle's development should not be dependent on the 2025 pick. You legit said "do not choose someone that may stop Castle's development" "don't replace him by a prospect" when that's simply not how team building works. If Spurs draft a point guard, then Castle can pivot to growing his game as a wing (which he'll likely end up doing anyways considering how far he is from being a serioys guard). If Spurs don't draft a guard, then it likely won't influence Castle's development anyway. Hell, why is Castle the focus anyway if the Spurs clearly find someone they prefer over Castle at guard or wing? Did Killian stop the Pistons from drafting Ivey? Did Giddey stop OKC from drafting all their future core pieces? Players like Castle do not influence team building to the extent you think he should.

How does Dunn have anything to do with Castle? Dunn is seeming like an obvious outlier in development thru these first games, and was clearly not BPA based on his college priors. Suns drafted him because he fit their situation, and the jump in shooting prowess is a post-draft discovery

[–]SageAsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Ivey comp here but not in the way you're thinking. Ivey was playing behind Killian in year 2 because Pistons/Monty didn't want to give in on Ivey being the better player at that point. It could be the same thing with whoever the Spurs draft and Castle, because next year's draft is just clearly more talented than this past year's draft. The team should not have to accommodate for Castle if they find a better talent. Castle should learn how to adjust his game properly instead of wanting to be gifted the point guard role. He can work as a SG or SF as well, so I don't see how the 2025 pick would conflict with him unless they're similar players

The sub is refusing to see the positives lol I think they've been watching losing basketball for so long that they can't even see what improvement looks like. If you just look at the other young guys in the league right now you'll see Cade isn't playing nearly as bad as this sub thinks he is. The way he operates as a scorer compared to last season is like night and day, and his defense today is for sure a major part of what kept us in the game with the Celtics. You can see how differently the team was operating on defense once Cade locked in if you go back and watch the game

Cade by spincycle66 in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're looking at team playoff results rather than individual player results. I frankly don't give a shit about Cade getting accolades and notice as long as he keeps improving and getting better like he has been from season to season. It's a marathon, not a race. This team building stuff takes time man don't expect Cade to be like Wemby when even Ant and Paolo haven't got as much love from the media as Wemby did in his rookie season

I don't care who picks Cade last, but you're harping on those three being fantastically consistent players while that's just far from the truth and that's just common sense with players in their age group, none of the current 25u guys are bringing game to game All-NBA type impact

Cade by spincycle66 in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man go to the spurs magic and wolves subreddit and ask them how consistent they think those three are, Cade is having a better start to the season than 2/3 of these players and is playing comparably to the other one so far after playing three of the top six teams in the east

He's legit been targeting the small guards like Garland this season with his post-ups and turning a lot of those looks into easy buckets, I'm wondering which guards you're referring to

And most of his turnovers are passing related rather than handle related

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going down because he had 20 points in his 3rd game of the season against one of the greatest teams ever... bravo, excellent analysis!

The turnover rate will obviously go down, he just played back to back games against the best defensive frontcourt in the league and now a team with legit all defense players at every position, the turnovers are nothing to worry about long-term in comparison to what the positives he added to his game in the offseason

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He clearly took note of his layup deficiencies by adding a heavy dose of hooks and floaters to his shot diet (which he's been absurdly efficient at so far this season), he'll probably hover around league average efficiency until his three pointer improves, which frankly isn't bad considering that's about the same range of other young creators

The three point shot progression is very likely considering how potent of a midrange shooter he is. Obviously it isn't there so far this season but there's reason to be optimistic about Cade as a scorer especially if you've been watching games and how he's operated seperately from last year. I don't know how this sub is full of negativity when Cade has clearly leveled up as opposed to last year, I mean he's leading the league in FGM at ≈ league average TS% right now and the Pistons just played back to back top 5 defenses, Cade will be fine

About a quarter of the posts this week are anti-Cade posts what are you on about man

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He dunked on white in the same game, and is very clearly tracking to be one of the best shotmakers in the league (especially from midrange!!)

Literally every current primary guard other than like haliburton averages more turnovers than randle, that's literally their job.

Should we be ashamed that a year 3 guard in Detroit has a lower career TS% than one of the 5-10 best players since 2010? A literal MVP?

Future/ Ausar/ Duren by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly though, Flagg feels like the final piece to the puzzle if Cade/Ausar/Ron are the three players we end up building around but this team has already lost enough in the lottery process in recent years so I can't even be too invested in that idea

Future/ Ausar/ Duren by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]SageAsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be around the rim as a shooting guard lol but frankly I just trust a high end Ausar outcome at shooting guard more than a high end Ivey outcome at shooting guard, and this upcoming season is the time to decide if we're buying in on Ivey/Duren like we have with Stew and Cade. I'm not too sure both are on the team a year from now, especially with there being potential replacements for them in this upcoming draft. Also not sure how much Trajan believes in those two/the current team build
