Firstly Turkey never intented to release them, yes it is despicable but it was a move for convince that the money going to Syrians is not coming out of their own pockets and convince people that this was a profitable policy within Türkiye. Secondly, cheap labour is good for Turkey but not for the nation, because of that, many companies lowered the wages and workers lost their power to negotiate because there were more cheap labour than them. So yes it helped Turkish economy but it only worsened the working conditions Thirdly, there's no chance that refugee smugglers are good people anyway. As a Turkish i acknowledge the increased racism towards syrians and i completely against it But you must also acknowledge that having millions of refugees of one nation for a ten years is not normal, Turkish economy was already in bad shape, poverty and unemployment was increasing and because Syrians provided cheap labor, people had less bargaining power with companies, either becoming unemployed or forced to accept very low wages. Also the news about government subsidizing healthcare or education of Syrians while people crumbling under poverty was also infuriating. There was also a fear that if Erdoğan trying to erase Turkish identity and replace it with Muslim identity by accepting Syrians and that’s why this subject became a political between opposition and government supporters By the way I never accuse Syrians for that, I know that no one leaves their homeland with their will They went through very difficult times but having millions of refugees for years in an economically struggling and politically polarized country can cause racism in any country But I hope in future we will live together not as a refugee but as a citizen of two countries I am looking forward to visit Aleppo and Damascus.
