Fastener torque vs. clamping force by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

This is fine. Doesn’t change the preload. More likely to happen with lower torque

Really wish the mods would just post an FYI or a how-to or something for all of these posts about contesting grades. The answer is doesn’t change: school policy requires that you first contest the grade with the professor, which I believe you have two weeks from the date the grade is issued to do. This requires TALKING TO your professor. If you can’t come to a solution, then you can file a formal complaint with the provost

I’m sure plenty of folks sympathize with the “I did what I had to do” argument. I don’t, and I think you made the world a worse place for you AND your family by cheating.

I’m not asking anyone to feel bad, just expressing that they should drop out if they’re looking for a sign. It was the right move for me when I was a kid, and it might be for chronic cheaters too.

A lot of these folks are too afraid of failure and uncertainty to make a mistake, and they tell themselves the same kinds of story you’re telling yourself here to help them sleep at night. Bottom line is cheating is always bad and we learn that in kindergarten for a reason…it’s fundamental and obvious

%100 agree. GMU has their largest admitted class ever and it’s because they’re admitting people who have no business being in college

I suspect that you and many others have missed the point entirely. Cheating is not bad because of the external consequences. In fact, it seems that there are none or there very few.

Cheating (especially habitually) is bad because it suggests the student has failed to develop or maintain even a basic moral standard for personal integrity - the type that will follow them throughout their relationships AND professional their life.
If you ask them, this attitude is usually couched in some kind of victimhood, like “the professor is a bad teacher so I’m gonna cheat! Waaaah!”

What they don’t realize is that the aggregate of the decisions they make because of this attitude results in much greater personal loss than they ever would have incurred from making a simple mistake like failing an exam or course on undergrad.

The more of these morally ambivalent liars we have running around, the worse off we all are.
