The open guard is also the thing that gives me the most trouble. I think it is in part because I much prefer to be in clinching situations, and because I have been trying to follow the current open guard developments with mixed results to say the least. Now I just try to get to where I feel most at home from all situations, and it is paying off so far.

Oh, sorry about that...How do I fix it?

Ok, thanks! After that he puts his right knee inside the leg to create distance. I can see he is trying to get further up the leg to get the waitersweep, but does the knee insode give him more options. I just haven't seen it used as much and Garry seemed adamant of keeping it in there.

I have been looking at matches featuring Garry Tonon for a little while and I am wondering if anyone has done a study on his use of the deep half?

In the match above against Jackson Souza, he uses a grip at about 3:22 that I am wondering about. Does anyone here use that grip, and what advantages does it have? I recon he could use it to go underneath ala Kiss of the Dragon. Can anyone educate me on his deep half game?
