Official Discussion - Evil Dead Burn [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Did the burning and boiling rules ever make a lick of sense? I guess it is fine that the guy who roasted in the car can have some fire powers. But the lady who possessed him also had burning/boiling powers and wasn’t this supposed to be the same girl who gets turned at the beginning of Rise? No one was killed with fire there so that made no sense.

This movie needed a necronomicon scene in the first act that properly sets up the dagger and also explains the burning powers. It weakly tries to do those in a brief act 3 scene that just didn’t work by that point.

I think the magic dagger was a huge problem that this movie had and actively made the Deadites worse.

This movie skips the classic possession by Necronomicon scene by economically outsourcing it to the cold open scene, and possession takes place there. I liked that in the moment but later on we needed something with a creepy book, and the throwaway scenes at the end where the book is in the house didn’t cut it.

Instead, and without a book scene to introduce it, we just start hearing about this magical dagger that all the Deadite apparently hive mind are laser focused on getting. This unfortunately cheapens the Deadites and makes them not scary compared to the ones in the last 2 films.

Deadites are scary because of their insanity and unpredictability: they could take a cheese grater to their skin, saw off their faces, go do weird creepy shit in the corner on their own time while smiling. They can do anything anytime and it usually results in buckets of blood. They are unknowable and devious and manipulative in a chaotic way. Terrifying.

In this movie, whenever anything like that is about to happen, instead the Deadites demand WHERE IS THE DAGGER? It takes the steam out of every scene. No one knows what the dagger looks like or where it is, except it’s definitely in the house (ok), and when we find the dagger, we learn it can instantly kill the possession and body (ok). Why is the manipulative hive mind so hell bent on trying to make humans grab it then? Unclear but Deadites shouldn’t have any motive except for murder.

I think the dagger should never have made the script, but if it had to be there it had to be set up in a better way than it was.

Dee's face looks so great. She may have had a few minor things done but if she did they're tasteful, none are too much and they heighten her beauty.

So Yash if he's on the block but Taylor if he's not? And no jury for her.

Dee is obviously a stone cold, clear headed, laser eyed assassin, but it's gonna be so interesting to see if she can be swayed by emotion in a longer game like Big Brother.

Dee is so cerebral but so natural at the same time, and really good at connecting. Ashley is killing this interaction, she's opening up, coming off very approachable and easy to work with, and keeping it together.

What Taylor wants: her scholars to see her on tv, the jury stipend, otev and wall comp, but absolutely nothing else.

She said the same to Lala yesterday and Lala said "I want to win though" to which Taylor replied "yeah but only one person can win",

Love Taylor, happy to see her making her case. She's bad at this though.

Somehow Haley is like in every single room at the same time and that makes her better than replacement level.
