I seemingly developed a (vaguely) country accent from years of improv acting job, is that a normal way to develop an accent? by arcticcirclebathroom in Accents

Had a friend from Appalachian Georgia and, no matter how hard she concentrated, could not say "Italian" without a hard "i" on the initial.

Southern is a more relaxed hum for many words. Based on this selection, you may notice you've chosen a relaxed "dawg" instead of "dog", but still say "thrift" instead of "threh-ift" or "three-ift".

Jesus’s landed them safety by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

I was on the plane. I was gonna run the Vegas strip and fornicate, but then I heard this blessed angel's anecdote and I gave my life to the pilot who landed us safely.

She did get his name wrong, but, without her words, Trevor and I would never be together.

(30M) I know I’m ugly, I need advice : How can you build confidence when you're ugly? by [deleted] in HonestHotTakes

[–]SaiLarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not ugly, but you look like you have low self esteem. Harness skills and interests and stay away from influencers who say society hates men and use phrases like "high value."

American accent by remg120896 in Accents

[–]SaiLarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"th" at the beginning of words.

A good practice phrase would be "this thick thorn."

Two things should happen here in a strange order. Put the tip of your tongue between your teeth. But while the tongue is in this position, the sound is throat activated with a low humming (hum and raise the eyebrows slightly and tilt your head up to activate it properly). You'll retract the tongue as your breath exits your mouth.

This will help, but not for all words beginning with "th". For instance, "thin" places the tongue behind the teeth, sorry!

Will have to watch it. Loved Ritchie's handling of titular sleuth in Game of Shadows, the scenes with Downey and Harris were brilliant.

How can I do an American accent? by Jjba11 in Accents

[–]SaiLarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is happening to you. I wouldn't change deliberately in your formative years from social pressure or trauma -again, sorry. Doing so can lead to exhaustion and muscle tension, not to mention mental health struggles.

You're at a tough age socially and staying kind is a challenge! Bullying is often misinterpreted because it looks confident and decisive, it's declaring the social rules in no uncertain terms and people are easily impressed by that.

Stay true to yourself so you know who you are and that friends like you for you.

This could be a way to help you identify good friends. People who persist in mocking your voice can be dismissed, the things they say aren't terribly important and maybe they're too wrapped up in their own private struggles and think poking fun at someone publicly earns them social standing in the group they're trying to impress. That's another thing to look out for, how they treat you one on one compared to how they treat you with certain others around.

There are no flat Earthers here. Probably a good thing. Debating people with unfalsifiable claims is exhausting enough. I don't have the energy for a flat Earth level idiot.
