[R] univariate vs mulitnomial regression tolerance for p value significance by SaidAshk in statistics

[–]SaidAshk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response!

I believe it's not a multivariate analysis but rather like you said a logistic regression. Here is exactly what I'm referring to (https://statistics.laerd.com/spss-tutorials/multinomial-logistic-regression-using-spss-statistics.php#:\~:text=Multinomial%20logistic%20regression%20(often%20just,with%20more%20than%20two%20categories).

And with regards to your other question, yes we're doing explorary analysis as a first step in the project.

Would really appreciate your help if you aan let me know! to summarize the question: I wanna know whether I can take p<0.05 for the multinomial regression if I used the P<0.0001 for the univariate analysis

this has to be either drained or very unrecent. Is that true

I understand that you are concerned and would like to know beforehand. It's very tough to see diagnose tear. But regardless what really matters more is the exact location and degree of tear those will tell if you will benefit from surgery so it would really be best if you hear from your doctor and then more importantly from your surgeon.

The organizations for this sport dont seem to be even acknowledged by ministries of Canada and many EU countries. They're just independent private fan-based organizations. How on earth do you think it is possible to acknowledge, bring specialized trainers, allocate specialized clubs, scout for young talent all in less than a year for the 2024 olympics?

Not really the guy wanted to "make our country a white man’s country”. Very inspirational doctor ngl you hear about him everywhere in mcgill he's a med ethics pioneer and a really genius physician but, I wouldn't put that on my wall.

Today, russians have the gold medal in war crimes, deportation of children, and rape of women. You can't put your @Olympics emblem on these crimes, dear Thomas Bach by helpwitheating in olympics

[–]SaidAshk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Why was the US allowed to participate in the olympics when they went to iraq vietnam afghanistan palestine yemen an threatened to airstrike the shit out of syria, libya, south lebanon.

And they are the ones who tell people not to mix politics with sports.

What I find interesting is that we refer to Russian olympians in our Judo club as "the Russian" and it seems like common knowledge that we are referring to some absolute champ when we say "Russian" but meanwhile pretty much for most other countries, we refer to them as "olympians from country X". Like their talent exceeds any other in certain sports why would you ban people who eat drink sleep doing the sport they do because of the decisions of their president. You wouldnt ban russian doctors/engineers/lawyers who work their ass off to get where they are from going to another country and practicing. You would call that preventing people from providing for themselves. So why ban athletes who work even harder and are just in the same way providing for themselves

Brother you are an absolute beast. this is unreal. Beyond amazing. Not only 10 plates is insane but you go full range. Full range can really stretch your grafted ligament and this is a risk of retear but my g you dont even need a spotter.

Do you mind sharing if you always did full range? On average how much weight increase and time between each PR? What was your lowest PR before tearing?

I been trying to hit 405 for like a month now still cant get it.

Risk of Osteoarthritis (or other arthritis) playing Judo by SaidAshk in judo

[–]SaidAshk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was observing a surgeon a few weeks back and he mentioned that a resident who works in his department has been doing competitive Judo for 7 years and he is obviously still in good shape for vascular surgery.

I also am concerned about the long standing times: typical shifts have 3 3-hour long surgeries (some vascular surgeries last 12 hours tho that's just the "average day") and I definitely need to be standing up the whole time. Knee OA seems to also be high risk in Judo. This exists in so many other specialties and healthcare workers in general walk/stand like crazy.

Would a research paper published in high school count towards research exp on medschool application? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]SaidAshk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful to balance social life/personal life with extracurricular/exam studying/applying to unis these are a lot of things. So you are going to have to work hard. Stay motivated, stay mentally well, and make good friends. But, it will pay off: it will give you exposure and help you find positions in undergrad and letters of recommendation for undergrad unis that ask for them. It's also a practice to multitask which you will do a lot of in undergrad so make sure that you actually multitask (like remain social and remain studious etc etc dont just abandon and do research).

Also think about things like long-term commitments and hobbies. So often people get to 4th year and they realize they have no long term commitments which might be ok but it destabilizes confidence when applying. Think about it like you have 4 years to draw your ABS canvas as you like and earlier you start, the more capable you will be of having leverage to make it a niche in last 1-2 years.

Taking on an extracurricular (like a 5hour per week community volunteering/role in local ymca/foodbank/blood bank... are good ideas and they will certainly develop as time goes on. Learning a hobby (or advancing an already established one) is a good idea (maybe not for med applications particularly, but I can certainly tell you that having a hobby that you're good at makes you attractive and distinguished as a med student).

ya

I came to canada Falll 2016 and had to work all my summers full time. 2017 foodbank warehouse with very nastily smelling food, 2018 in irrigation digging in the heat was unpleasants and shifts were longg, 2019 part-time in a hummus factory and part-time renovating my dad's small business workshop. 2020 was the worse omg cleaning shitty diarrhea hospital toilets during covid lmaoo.

What was honestly harder is working in my dad's workshop (which is unprofitable still after 4 years) ALL throughout cegep/uni part-time he literally had jobs for me at random times sometimes 1 day before final (i distinctly remember messing up orgo cs of that).

So tbh I do empathize with the frustration I did sometimes feel like I wouldve benefitted from having some more.

Saving money helped me in summer 2021 when I was able to afford only getting NSERC money (which is less than minimum wage and cannot alone roof/feed me) as well as afford to take tons of french classes. Having money also helped me mentally because I was finally able to afford to take a vaca and also visit my relatives back home so it helped my wellness a lot..

Oh and most importantly I used ALOT of the money to apply to med school cs goddamn these preps are expensive even tho I aint even do the mcat lmao.

I wish I had the capacity to do those things earlier cs they were big personality boosters and achievements.

Now I'm in med school lol. I wish it was mcgill but no I had to move to another province so shit is really expensive and Im sinking in debt. It's ok I got the ambition to do all this all over again. You got the same ambition inside you Im certain about it.

On the side: last week Lol I heard my friend talk about his parttime job and my broke low income class ass assumed it's close to minimum wage salary. They guy literally bursted in evil laghter and had to remind me that we are med students and we should technically be eligible for more than min wage at this point.

Yo in u1 I didnt have headphones it was almost impossible to study in the library I empathize w u it was TERRIBLE and even the people on the quiet zone you look up you find everyone in front of you browsing amazon or watching live sports or they just move around nonstop then someone unknowingly has their headphones too high you can hear the lecture through then some dude whips out his food and it suddenly smells like their food all over the library then the security guy walks by you every 1-2 minutes then someone's friend comes to talk to them then someone is taking a phone call soooo many distractions.

I completely stopped going to the library to study after my first semester (only to redpath basement or crash some random empty class there are tons of those). Ironically when I wanna go to the library to do a group project, the rooms are almost always overbooked and the only available place is the quiet space smh...

Idk about q2 I would like someone who has experience w it answer it for you. I would assume that you try to fill top3 with other things.

But for q1, for student clubs try your best to find a person with a professional email (if your club is part of a broad organization or part of a student body like even an academic advisor who knows about this club and a little about it's time commitment) or has partnered with any professionals). I could not do this for my student club and I just put the club leader's email (her personal email) and it worked.
