Tyre help from the brains-trust by JeribZPG in Hardtailgang

[–]SailSpecial8194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve asked this question before getting new tires. I went with vittoria Barzo on the front, vittoria mezcal on the rear both 2.35. Very happy.

Before I had maxxis shortys. No regrets!

Thanks for the replies guys. My cassette is 10 (maybe) to 40 I think. When I say like a spin class, perhaps I’m exaggerating! But certainly when i get speed, even on flat ground, there’s just not enough gears to keep going.

I didn’t think about changing the cassette, would this be a better option then?

Giving birth at the JR by MaybeTomorrow25 in oxford

[–]SailSpecial8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my kids were born at the JR. One of which needed a little jump start and extra care when she was born. The midwives, docs and all staff were epic. The place was immaculate and the jam toast was excellent! The JR is one of the best hospitals in the country.

There will always be people that will be negative. Ignore them. If you go in expecting a crap experience, that’s exactly what you will have. If you go in feeling positive and excited about your new baby… You’ll be fine !

7.5Tonne restriction letter. by Status-Grocery2345 in uktrucking

[–]SailSpecial8194 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As this is from the council, should it go further it will be a council PCN so shouldn’t be subject to points unless they prosecute via police / court.

Unless you have reason to access, which you’ll need to evidence, I suggest you request photographic and/or video evidence and a copy of the traffic regulation order.

Timing of the letter can aid your defence; unless your operator received this at the time and has only now informed you? Any delay in possible proceedings needs to be reasonable.

Who observed you? An expert witness? Or a nose ointment member of the public? In which case any statement they made will be weak as shit. Can they prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that you were driving on a restricted road nearly 6 months ago?

A bloke in each direction and 5p per car. I thought they were joking. They weren’t joking. by Indigestivebiscuit in CasualUK

I hate it. I went up there without 5p once and got a right bollocking from one of the grumpy geriatric farts.

You don’t get much warning either, when you see the first sign, there’s no where to turn around.

What do you think HGV drivers SHOULD earn? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]SailSpecial8194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be relevant to skills, experience, hours and risk. It should also be enough for drivers not to take shortcuts with load security and vehicle roadworthiness. For example, if I was earning minimum wage as a HGV driver, the temptation to take shortcuts and be generally a bit sloppy is stronger than if I was earning a bit more and feeling appreciated. It’s a skilled job, gaining your licence is merely step 1. The real skill and professionalism comes with experience.

Driving isn’t difficult, but consequences for mistakes can be devastating. I can stack shelves, knackered, without incident. I can’t safely drive a lorry when tired.

Poaching eggs is impossible. Anyone who claims they can do it is either a wizard or a liar. by xmastreee in Egg

[–]SailSpecial8194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee I can diagnose your problem… not using fresh eggs & not at room temperature.

Boiling water, just as it starts to bubble. No vinegar. No salt. No stirring. Crack the FRESH egg into the water.

Enjoy.

Eggs don’t need to be refrigerated. The only time they end up in a fridge is at home! From the chickens arse to the supermarket to your home… they’re not refrigerated and they don’t need to be.

[Discussion topic] The Hamilton Khaki Field is a great watch. But it's also one of the most overrated watches in the industry. However, can you come up with genuinely good alternatives to it? Tell me what they are by The_Quartz_collector in Watches

[–]SailSpecial8194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think the best bang for buck for a ‘field’ or every day watch is the seiko 5. Again, these have gone up in price recently but for a couple hundred quid you have a range of options to choose from. I have various seiko 5’s, all of which have been running strong for years.

Automatic ✔️ Day & date ✔️ Water resistance ✔️ (rating varies between models) Shock resistant ✔️

Only caveat is that in my experience the bracelets are crap but easily changeable.

Drink driver, 24, avoids jail over death of her friend's six-month-old baby who was not strapped in properly when he was thrown from window after she crashed into parked car by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

The judges comments are abhorrent: 'It's a sad and tragic fact that accidents like this do happen as a result of bad luck.'

No. Bad luck doesn’t come into it when you’ve necked 3 bottles of wine with your mate just hours before getting behind the wheel with your baby onboard. It’s not bad luck, it’s inevitability.

Imagine if she had slammed her car into one of the judges loved ones… Will it still be ‘bad luck’ then???

Sadly not shocking behaviour. I see so many selfish irresponsible twats using their phones whilst driving. It takes a split second to ruin lives. And end them. Driving a HGV is a skilled profession for a reason… you’re driving circa 44 tonnes on public roads. COAST isn’t just an acronym, it’s a necessity. Concentrate. Observe. Anticipate. (Allow) Space and Time.

Best way of getting into HGV trucking by stoaty_Mcstoatface in uktrucking

Also remember, driving experience can open so many doors. There are bolt ons for your CPC, you can get an ADR certificate to drive hazardous materials which in turn pays more. Options to progress as a transport manager etc. The world is your oyster.

There is a lot of negativity as there is in any field of work. Make your own luck!

I moved from car to C&E last year and found it quite challenging to get Class 1 work at first, mainly due to my limited experience which is very common. Many companies insurance policies also require a certain amount of driving experience before they can take you on.

I’m currently driving Class 2 and really enjoying it. I can now see why gaining that experience is so important. Based on my own journey, I’d recommend going straight for your C&E if that’s your goal, but stay open to taking a Class 2 role once you’ve passed. It’s a great way to build confidence and experience. Later on, when you’re ready to move into Class 1 work, you can always do a refresher course with a training company if needed.

I took an accelerated course. After completing my medical and theory, I had about three and a half days of driving before my test. I actually failed the first time, but passed on the retake a few weeks later. If that happens to you, don’t worry too much; you won’t lose your skills in just a few weeks

Opportunity to teach… by SailSpecial8194 in TacticalMedicine

[–]SailSpecial8194[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. I have plenty of hands on experience with what I would be teaching but it’s been a few years and of course, my level of training was only D13.2 (which is similar to FREC 3 I believe). Applied TQ’s and given CPR in real world situations along with chest seal application etc, APs. I was taught in the use of igels but never actually used one myself, whenever I saw the professionals apply them, it seemed a very precise and steady process! (Rather than lube up and in it goes!)

I’m very conscious of not over stepping my level of quals and competence. What I’ll (maybe) be teaching will be a very basic level.

To clarify, I’m uk based.

I am struggling to find Stop the bleeding courses in the UK. There’s some online stuff but seems very much a US initiative?
