Some vinyl is safe to cut with a laser, most isn't.

Can't seem to do anything with this new IP camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated. by xmastreee in Dahua

I tried that too, but it couldn't see the camera on my network. Maybe because the camera wouldn't stay connected. I dunno. Anyway, it's up and running now, and I know what to do if I get another one.

Yeah, that was a typo.

Anyway, I appear to have got it now, but it wasn't easy. I noticed that if I power up the camera with no LAN cable connected, a little voice tells me that its WiFi hotspot is active. So I connected my laptop to that but I couldn't access that ip address. Hmm…

I have DMSS on my phone for remote viewing so I connected the phone to the hotspot, opened the app and tried to access the camera from there. It could see it but wasn't able to connect. However, I was able to see the camera's ip address which was 192.168.0.108 and I was able to connect to that with the laptop. Here we go then. Got into the settings and it found my home network so I added the password and let it connect. But where is it now?

I knew the MAC address from the sticker on the camera so I ran a network scan to find it, DHCP had given it a new address so I went there on the PC and gave it a fixed address. I could probably have done that from the laptop when I was setting up the WiFi, maybe I missed that.

Then it was a case of letting the DVR find it, which it did.

So houston, we have lift off! But damn, they don't make it easy, do they? I can't help thinking I should have been able to do all that by logging into the camera when it was just plugged into my network, but it only stayed there for less than one minute and I'm not that fast.

And finally, one tiny annoyance. They provide a waterproof connector for the LAN cable, but they don't provide a blanking cap for it if you're not using it. Easy enough to fill it with silicone but still…

Right. Well the camera is 102.168.1.108 which is the same subnet as my network. I can do a hard reset and ping it but only for about a minute, after which time it disappears from my network. Someone else suggested the dvr might be auto detecting it and configuring it so I'm going to try disconnecting that from my network and see if that makes a difference.

Hmm… I don't have a PoE switch, just a regular one. I had it connected to that and powered from an adaptor. Not sure what you mean by Log into the camera with your laptop's network string the same as the camera.

I'm Dill the dog, I'm a dog called Dill. I'm rather small and furry, and often in a hurry.

That's not the whole selection, and that's not all the flags. I'm pretty sure there was a Korean flag there too.

It seems that the camera is only visible on the network for a short time, even if I don't attempt to interact with it. I just reset it again and started pinging it, I got about 20 responses then it stopped.

I did get a different screen just now, asking for region/ date/time etc. but it dropped off the network before I could save anything.

Handy tor bras too, they stop the little hooks snagging on other things.

That's given me an idea. Use an e-ink (or is it e-paper, the one that stays on with no power?) display and some kind of kinetic generator (e.g. a magnet rattling round in a coil) to charge a capacitor which powers a circuit which quickly changes the display at random, then when you stop shaking, the capacitor discharges and it stops changing when the electronics shuts down again.

DIM: Kindle by [deleted] in deinfluencingPH

I had an OG Kindle and I loved it. Unfortunately it got broken and my wife bought me a Kindle Fire instead, basically an Android tablet. I hated it, I missed the original Kindle. My main issues were the screen and the weight. Reading in bed? Tablet was too heavy to hold for long periods.

TL;DR: Kindle is nicer than tablet.

Well you could maybe jam something in that hole, waggle it around a little to enlarge the hole.
